Overview

Day Shift Mechanical Fitter
Location: Colwick, Nottingham
Employment Type: Permanent
Salary: £17.50 per hour (Overtime Available)
Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off, 12-hour day shifts (typically 6 AM - 6 PM)

We are seeking experienced Mechanical Fitters or individuals ready to step into a new challenge. Join a fast-growing industrial site focused on the safe and efficient running of critical heavy machinery. Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventive maintenance on equipment including shredders, magnets, conveyor belts, rollers, drive gearboxes, motors, baling machines, and hydraulic systems.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults quickly to minimise downtime during production.
  • Support the installation, assembly, and commissioning of new equipment and modifications to existing machinery.
  • Maintain clear maintenance logs and communicate effectively with the night shift team for seamless handovers.
  • Work collaboratively with day and night teams, as well as production staff, to maintain operational continuity.

Experience Required

  • Essential:

    • Proven experience in mechanical fitting or maintenance within a heavy industry setting.
    • Confident reading mechanical drawings and fault finding and repairs.
    • Comfortable working independently on day shifts, keeping equipment running smoothly when it matters most.


  • Desirable:

    • Experience with hydraulic fittings, baling machines, and conveyor systems.
    • 70/30 mechanical/electrical skillset beneficial.
    • Experience in waste or recycling sectors preferred.
    • IOSH, First Aid, or similar safety certifications.
