Location: Essex / Kent / Greater London

Salary: £37,000 - £47,000 (DOE)

OTE: Up to £60,000+ (uncapped overtime)

Job Type: Permanent, Field-Based

A well-established engineering consultancy working across power generation and petrochemical sites is looking to recruit three Mechanically Biased Field Service Engineers. The business supports major industrial clients by filling critical skill gaps, responding to breakdowns, delivering project work and installations, and refurbishing or manufacturing specialist components. With a strong order book and several large projects planned over the next 3-5 years, this is an excellent time to join.

As a Mechanical Field Service Engineer, you'll work across a range of heavy industrial environments, carrying out maintenance, fault-finding, and project support. The role is hands-on, varied, and suited to engineers who enjoy autonomy and problem-solving in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical maintenance and breakdown support on heavy industrial equipment
  • Must be commutable to Essex for callout (within 1 hour)
  • Working on pumps (centrifugal), conveyors, bearings, drives, gearboxes, pipework and basic hydraulics
  • Fault diagnosis and repair without direct supervision
  • Confident use of measuring equipment for alignment and tolerances
  • Producing clear reports including findings, condition assessments, actions taken and recommendations
  • Supporting and, where required, leading planned outages and project work

Working Pattern & Travel

  • Standard hours: 40 hours per week (7am-4pm)
  • Overtime: Widely available (typically ~500 hours per year, busiest March-August)
  • Call-out: 1 in 6 weeks
  • Minimum 4 hours paid per call-out
  • 1.5x pay before midnight, 2x pay after midnight
  • Late finishes allow for next-day flexibility and mandatory rest time
  • Travel: Mostly local; occasional stay-aways (approx. 1 in 5)
  • Hotel fully booked by the company
  • £50 per day work-away allowance (£30 accommodation supplement + £20 food)
  • Travel over 2 hours typically results in a stay-away with a 12-hour shift

What We're Looking For

  • Strong mechanical background in heavy industry or manufacturing
  • Experience with pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, bearings and rotating equipment
  • Ability to work independently and make sound engineering decisions
  • Engineering qualifications (NVQ, apprenticeship or equivalent)
  • Clean or near-clean UK driving licence
  • Physically fit and able to pass site security checks
  • Open to travel and occasional overnight stays

New Edge Computing Employers to Watch in 2026: UK and Global Companies Shaping Edge Innovation

Edge computing is transforming how data is processed by bringing compute power closer to the source of generation. With the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT), real‑time analytics, autonomous systems, and latency‑sensitive applications, edge computing has moved from a niche discipline to a core component of digital infrastructure. In 2026, organisations that specialise in or heavily invest in edge computing are expanding their teams to build distributed systems, real‑time analytics platforms, and edge‑optimised AI. For professionals exploring opportunities on www.EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk , understanding which employers are growing, winning contracts, or securing investment is essential. This article highlights the new and high‑growth edge computing employers to watch in 2026, including UK startups, international innovators with a UK presence, and established companies shifting strategy toward edge.

How Many Edge Computing Tools Do You Need to Know to Get an Edge Computing Job?

If you’re trying to start or grow a career in edge computing, it can feel like you’re navigating a maze of tools, frameworks and platforms — Kubernetes, Docker, IoT frameworks, AWS Greengrass, Azure IoT Edge, OpenShift, TinyML toolkits, networking orchestration, real-time streaming frameworks, and on it goes. Scroll job boards and community forums and it’s easy to conclude that unless you master every buzzword imaginable, you’ll never get a job. Here’s the honest truth most edge computing hiring managers won’t necessarily say out loud: 👉 They don’t hire you because you know every edge computing tool — they hire you because you can solve real system problems using the tools you know. Tools matter, yes — but only when they support clear outcomes: reliable systems, performance at scale, secure edge deployments and real business value. So how many edge computing tools do you actually need to know to secure a job? For most edge computing roles, the answer is fewer than you think — and a lot clearer when sorted by fundamentals and roles. This guide shows you what matters, what doesn’t, and how to focus your time wisely so you come across as capable, confident and employable.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Edge Computing Job Applications (UK Guide)

In today’s fast-evolving tech landscape, edge computing is one of the most sought-after fields — blending distributed systems, embedded systems, networking, cloud, IoT, data and real-time processing. But that also means hiring managers are highly selective. They scan applications fast and look for signals of relevance, impact, technical depth and real-world delivery long before they read every line. This guide demystifies what hiring managers in edge computing look for first in your application — so you can tailor your CV, portfolio and cover letter to jump out of the stack. Whether you’re targeting edge systems roles, embedded IoT edge jobs, edge-native data roles, edge platform engineering or edge-AI positions, this checklist will help you position your experience in a way hiring managers can trust immediately.
