Overview

We have an exciting opportunity within Engineering & Maintenance for a highly motivated and energetic Mechanical Engineering Supervisor with a solid understanding of building systems, infrastructure and excellent communication skills.


The Engineering and Maintenance team provide a reactive and planned programme of works for every building within the university, working in collaboration with other university departments and outside partners to deliver an outstanding, world‑class service.

Responsibilities

For maintenance purposes, the University estate is divided into three zones: East, West and Outer. You will directly line manage the mechanical maintenance team in one of the zones. This involves supervising allocation of planned and reactive maintenance around the university campus. You will manage parts procurement and ensure stock levels are maintained. You will also monitor staffing levels and ensure there is adequate cover for essential maintenance at all times. A good technical knowledge and the ability to advise others will be expected. IT literacy is essential to carry out all required activities.


As a visible uniformed representative of the university a professional, positive, approachable, customer focused attitude is essential as interaction with students, staff, visitors, contractors and members of the public will be an important part of this role.


You will be expected to assist and lead fault finding for complex technical issues which occur on a large university campus with a varied building stock. A working technical knowledge of current guidelines and standards such as Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR) is essential, together with a strong knowledge of relevant Health and Safety legislation.


You will assist the University with its obligations to meet the requirements of the Estates & Facilities Integrated Management System (Comprising ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 500001).
