Senior Design Manager – Mechanical (SME)

Location: Flexible – Europe (with occasional US travel)

We’re looking for a hands-on Senior Design Manager – Mechanical to join a leading global data centre operator at a pivotal moment of growth. This is a high-impact role for someone with deep mechanical engineering expertise, comfortable leading multi-disciplinary design teams across hyperscale mission-critical facilities.

In this role, you’ll be the mechanical subject matter expert for European development projects, overseeing everything from pre-construction through commissioning. You’ll manage internal and external stakeholders, coordinate multi-phased site development, and ensure design excellence across the full project lifecycle.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead mechanical design for campus and development projects, managing budgets, schedules, and deliverables
  • Guide internal design managers and external consultants, ensuring alignment with technical standards and project goals
  • Interface with project managers, cost consultants, local authorities, and hyperscale customers as needed
  • Drive design updates and master plans, supporting executive-level decision making
  • Manage equipment procurement, technical submittals, and design change processes
  • Ensure all mechanical deliverables meet quality, code, and standardisation requirements
  • Collaborate across disciplines (CSA, MEPH, ICT) to deliver integrated solutions

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent professional experience
  • 3–7 years’ experience delivering hyperscale or mission-critical facilities, ideally in a multi-disciplinary design environment
  • Strong mechanical engineering and design management expertise
  • Familiarity with tools such as Bluebeam, Revit, BIM 360, ACC, and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel within Europe and the US (~25%)

Nice-to-haves:

  • Chartered Mechanical Engineer status or advanced degree (MBA, Master’s in Engineering/Management)
  • Experience with hyperscale clients and local authority/regulatory interfaces
  • Broad understanding of adjacent disciplines and design gating/change control processes

This is your chance to shape the future of hyperscale data centres and make a tangible impact on some of the world’s most advanced digital infrastructure projects.

New Edge Computing Employers to Watch in 2026: UK and Global Companies Shaping Edge Innovation

Edge computing is transforming how data is processed by bringing compute power closer to the source of generation. With the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT), real‑time analytics, autonomous systems, and latency‑sensitive applications, edge computing has moved from a niche discipline to a core component of digital infrastructure. In 2026, organisations that specialise in or heavily invest in edge computing are expanding their teams to build distributed systems, real‑time analytics platforms, and edge‑optimised AI. For professionals exploring opportunities on www.EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk , understanding which employers are growing, winning contracts, or securing investment is essential. This article highlights the new and high‑growth edge computing employers to watch in 2026, including UK startups, international innovators with a UK presence, and established companies shifting strategy toward edge.

How Many Edge Computing Tools Do You Need to Know to Get an Edge Computing Job?

If you’re trying to start or grow a career in edge computing, it can feel like you’re navigating a maze of tools, frameworks and platforms — Kubernetes, Docker, IoT frameworks, AWS Greengrass, Azure IoT Edge, OpenShift, TinyML toolkits, networking orchestration, real-time streaming frameworks, and on it goes. Scroll job boards and community forums and it’s easy to conclude that unless you master every buzzword imaginable, you’ll never get a job. Here’s the honest truth most edge computing hiring managers won’t necessarily say out loud: 👉 They don’t hire you because you know every edge computing tool — they hire you because you can solve real system problems using the tools you know. Tools matter, yes — but only when they support clear outcomes: reliable systems, performance at scale, secure edge deployments and real business value. So how many edge computing tools do you actually need to know to secure a job? For most edge computing roles, the answer is fewer than you think — and a lot clearer when sorted by fundamentals and roles. This guide shows you what matters, what doesn’t, and how to focus your time wisely so you come across as capable, confident and employable.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Edge Computing Job Applications (UK Guide)

In today’s fast-evolving tech landscape, edge computing is one of the most sought-after fields — blending distributed systems, embedded systems, networking, cloud, IoT, data and real-time processing. But that also means hiring managers are highly selective. They scan applications fast and look for signals of relevance, impact, technical depth and real-world delivery long before they read every line. This guide demystifies what hiring managers in edge computing look for first in your application — so you can tailor your CV, portfolio and cover letter to jump out of the stack. Whether you’re targeting edge systems roles, embedded IoT edge jobs, edge-native data roles, edge platform engineering or edge-AI positions, this checklist will help you position your experience in a way hiring managers can trust immediately.
