Mechanical Design Engineer - R&D

Salary: to c£60k + benefits, neg dep exp. Location: East Midlands, commutable from Derby, Leicester and Nottingham.

Our client has been established for almost a quarter of a century and are recognised as market leaders in the provision of bespoke innovative materials handling and automation solutions to a diverse range of clients and industry sectors throughout the UK. They are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to complement their dynamic and professional R&D team.

Responsibilities
  • Design bespoke solutions to meet customer requirements, as well as modify and update existing products from the expansive solutions portfolio.
  • Produce drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCad and create associated BOMs.
  • Perform accurate engineering calculations and ensure compliance with Machinery Directives and Engineering standards.
  • Engage in regular liaison with customers and occasionally visit them on site.
  • Interpret customer and supplier technical documentation and specifications and generate suitable design concepts while working closely with fellow departments.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience in Master Model Design Approach, Parametric design, Design Tables and CAD Macros / Automation.
  • Computer programming experience would be advantageous; Rapid Prototyping experience (3D Printing) and working knowledge of structural mechanics and the implementation of FEA in design are desirable.
  • Working knowledge of kinematics and dynamics (theoretical or via software or both), and ability to use for analysis of new designs.
  • Experience with PDM systems and CAD Library generation / automation software.
  • Degree-level (or above) in a relevant (preferably Mechanical) engineering discipline with at least 3 years of experience in a special purpose machinery design or manufacturing environment, ideally within industrial automation or engineering, and experience in electro-mechanical systems design (ideally conveyors, automation or MHE).
