Your Contribution to Prysmian's Success

We’re looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Power Grids team in Eastleigh. Our Power Grids Design team is the driving force behind some of the UK’s most challenging and innovative energy projects, from transmission systems to windfarm developments. The team are responsible for undertaking complex HV cable systems design and supporting the HV business in winning tenders and undertaking contracts for transmission and windfarm projects in the UK. You can have a real impact in shaping the success of projects that power communities and support the UK’s energy future!


You Will Be Responsible For

  • Collaborating with design teams to support UK-based projects
  • Participating in design coordination meetings and contributing to technical discussions
  • Maintaining accurate contract records for future reference
  • Providing technical support and training to internal teams and customers
  • Leading product approval processes for UK clients
  • Interpreting customer needs and National Grid specifications
  • Assessing and managing project risks
  • Preparing engineering design packs for site teams
  • Working closely with site engineers to ensure timely, on-budget delivery
  • Managing design documentation and change control procedures
  • Developing and tracking design programmes
  • Creating cost‑effective cable system proposals and supporting contracts through execution
  • The job will involve a mix of office and site-based work

You Are the Right Fit If You Have / Are

  • Ideally educated up to degree level or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
  • Preferably hold experience of Mathcad, however training can be given
  • Experience in cross-country utilities projects would be an advantage
  • Structured, systematic approach and good attention to detail
  • Hold good interpersonal skills, communication, and presentation capability
  • Possess excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to see the overall picture – e.g. cost/options/compliance/practicality/customer awareness
  • Highly self‑motivated, with a keen, hands‑on approach
