Logical PS are recruiting in behalf of a leading FM company who operate inside the NHS trust network. We are recruiting for x2 Mechanical Craftpersons in Birmingham.


General Overview

To carry out maintenance across the entire QEH contract estate. Responsible for the delivery of mechanical engineering maintenance service in line with contractual obligations, industry best practice and relevant standards and guidance (HTM). The role is to ensure planned preventive maintenance, testing, breakdown/reactive maintenance activities on the estate are completed and records maintained.



  • Working Hours Mon - Fri 0700 - 1900 with flexibility to suit site requirements. (Roles are either 8am-4pm or 11am-7pm).
  • The responsibilities will mainly be at the Acute Hospital, but will also include duties at the Mental Health unit and Retained Estate as required by the Estates management team.
  • To undertake any reasonable duties to maintain all services to the NHS Trust(s).
  • Assist in the operational delivery for site activity.
  • To be conversant with and work to the current regulations, codes of practice, Health & Safety regulations (CDM), HTMs, and all safety rules both Equans and Statutory.
  • Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings and specifications appropriate to his/her own trade, without supervision.
  • Set up New Work appropriate to his/her own trade using relevant tools, equipment and machinery, without supervision, as appropriate to his/her grade.
  • To maintain workshops and working environment in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
  • After appropriate training, work off tower scaffolding, MEWP’s, ladders, and step ladders.
  • To carry out unsupervised maintenance and repairs and report any defects or unusual circumstances to the Mechanical Team Leader.
  • Requirement to learn new techniques with training as necessary.
  • To undertake any reasonable duties to maintain all services to the NHS client.
  • Provide support to stakeholders such as University Hospitals Birmingham and Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trusts where instructed/required.
  • To carry out all works in compliance with set KPI's.
  • Manage individually assigned work effectively to ensure site performance via use of CAFM systems and other digital based management tools is accurate when reviewed by management.
  • Achieve and maintain AP/CP appointments in disciplines as requested by estates management team to support the contract where required and appropriate.
  • Scope of work will include entering Mortuary, ITU's, A&E admissions, Operating Theatres etc after reporting to Trust Staff. Occasional exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances could be encountered.

Qualifications or Required Experience

  • City & Guilds (or equivalent) Mechanical qualifications.
  • Understanding of AHU, FCU, Boilers, Calorifiers and plantroom equipment.
  • Indentured apprenticeship or equivalent training.
  • Healthcare and or Healthcare PFI experience.
