Job Title: Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering


Department: Engineering


Reporting to: Curriculum Team Leader


Salary: £17,739 - £26,137 per annum, actual salary (subject to a progression criteria)


Annual Leave: 45 days per annum plus bank holidays (pro rata)


Contractual hours: 22.2 hours per week


Basis: Part time, Permanent


Pension: Teachers Pension Scheme


Location: Middlesbrough College Main Campus, TS2 1AD


The Role

In this role, you will design, plan, and deliver high‑quality programmes of study that meet the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of all learners, ensuring an engaging and developmentally appropriate learning environment that supports their ongoing progress. You will teach across a range of qualifications, including BTEC and T Levels in Mechanical Engineering, using a variety of effective teaching methods, resources, and industry‑relevant approaches. Through regular diagnostic assessment, you will identify individual learning strengths and areas for development, enabling you to tailor support and interventions that promote successful outcomes. In addition, you will ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, maintain accurate and compliant records, and actively contribute to the wider quality assurance and continuous improvement processes of the College.


Working pattern: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of all students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of all students.
  • Employ a variety of teaching techniques and resources consistent with best practices, specific content knowledge, the physical limitations of the space provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Plan and deliver a suitable Assessment Programme ensuring marked work meets Middlesbrough College Gold Standards.
  • Implement Middlesbrough College’s Core Values through the Taking Teaching Higher strategy.
  • Utilise diagnostic assessment tools to identify learning strengths and needs of every student, on a regular basis, for the purpose of intervention and/or acceleration toward academic achievement.
  • Participate in Interval Verification requirements including the preparation for Awarding Body visits.
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to assure safety in the classroom and the College for all students.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by Middlesbrough College and any statutory regulators including but not limited to Awarding Bodies, Funding Bodies and / or Government Departments.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Be a qualified Teacher or willing to work towards.
  • Be a qualified assessor or willing to work towards.
  • Hold a minimum of a Level 5 in Mechanical Engineering.
  • GCSEs at Grade C / Level 4 or above in English and Maths, or equivalent.
  • Desirable – Current knowledge and / or experience of teaching in one or more fields of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Current knowledge of potential issues in the sector that may impact on curriculum delivery.
  • Current knowledge and / or experience of career opportunities in the sector for 16 – 18 and 19+ learners.
