£36400 per annum. Training Course subsidy also included if ITMMiF/ATMMiF are not held.

Role Summary

We are seeking to recruit an experienced and fully qualified Lead Academy Physiotherapist to manage our medical delivery in the Academy across all age groups (U9-U18).

You will lead the physio provision for the full time U18 scholar players, through attendance at all training and games. Further essential duties with the U18s will be to deliver clinical treatment and assessment of injured players and in collaboration with the S&C Lead Coach, create return to play protocols for all injured U18 players.

Building strong relationships with the 1 st team medical staff, you will agree injury assessment and treatment plans for longer term injuries. Additionally, you will line manage the team of casual physio’s and sports therapists. Leading on the organisation of their working rotas to ensure all training and games are supported and their continuous professional development to ensure all medical aspects in the training and game operations of our U9-U16 programme are professionally catered for.

The role holder will be expected to demonstrate the club values in all aspects of the role and act as a mentor to all U18 players.

As a member of the Academy Management Team, you will manage the recording and storage of all confidential medical information and drive standards in your department and across the wider academy to help us reach our strategic goals, through the successful implementation of departmental KPI’s.

Your key responsibilities
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all medical and health-related matters concerning academy players.
  • Lead the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of academy players, ensuring effective injury management and return-to-play processes.
  • Report injuries promptly to the Academy Manager and relevant phase coaches.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and ensure accurate recording and secure storage of all medical records.
  • Provide physiotherapy cover for U18 training sessions and match days, including pre-match preparation, pitch-side medical support and post-match recovery protocols.
  • Implement and manage the academy’s injury audit programme in accordance with EPPP requirements.
  • Attend required briefings, courses and seminars delivered by the Academy, Club and The FA Medical Education Centre.
  • Develop and deliver a CPD programme for casual and intern medical staff.
  • Line manage casual and intern medical staff, including scheduling rotas and overseeing timesheets to ensure appropriate coverage for training and matches.
  • Support staff development through appraisals as directed by the Academy Manager.
  • Ensure all medical equipment is maintained, stocked and prepared for training sessions and matches.
  • Contribute to academy induction events, parent education workshops and regular multi-disciplinary and academy management meetings.
  • Promote behaviours that support a professional environment for players and staff.
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development and personal learning.
About The Candidate

Your Skills and Experience:

The appointed physiotherapist must have:

  • BSc Hons in physiotherapy (completed)
  • HCPC Registered (completed)
  • Member CSP
  • Intermediate Trauma and Medical Management in Football (ITMMiF) or equivalent
  • FA Safeguarding certificate
  • Experience working with youth and young adult footballers or athletes from another sport.
  • A valid driving licence with frequent access to a car or club vehicle is essential.
  • Right to work full time in the UK within a professional sports organisation must be held at the time of applying.

Desirable qualifications:

  • MSc in Physiotherapy
  • Strength and Conditioning experience
  • The candidate will be working towards Advanced Trauma Medical Management in Football (ATMMiF)
