Overview

An opportunity has arisen for a skilled HGV Mechanical / Electrical Fitter to join a specialist commercial vehicle business. The successful candidate will be responsible for the repair, maintenance and preparation of heavy goods vehicles, ensuring high standards of workmanship and compliance with safety regulations. The role involves working on a range of specialist road tankers and commercial vehicles, carrying out installations, body repairs, diagnostics and fault finding.


Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine maintenance and repairs on heavy goods vehicles in line with safety and inspection standards
  • Install and fit electrical components and systems within vehicles
  • Test and inspect vehicle lighting systems
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults using technical drawings and diagnostic tools
  • Prepare new vehicles for service, including body repairs and finishing work
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, including parts used and time taken
  • Comply with health and safety policies and safe working practices
  • Work to required timeframes while maintaining high quality standards
  • Communicate clearly regarding vehicle faults and repair requirements

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience as an HGV fitter, mechanic or similar role
  • Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Good diagnostic and fault-finding skills
  • Knowledge of vehicle inspection standards and scheduled maintenance requirements
  • Ability to distinguish subtle colour variations
  • Understanding of safe heavy lifting techniques
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Positive and proactive attitude
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Relevant vehicle maintenance qualifications or certifications desirable
