Evans Transport, a leading logistics and transport company in North Devon, is seeking a skilled and dedicated HGV Mechanic to join our team in Bideford. This role is essential for maintaining the efficiency and safety of our fleet of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) & trailers. Our facilities include an 8 bay workshop with both pits and lifts, onsite ATF lane, Tacho Centre & inhouse tyres with an onsite TRP parts centre. We have a robust apprenticeship program and source all larger tools and diagnostic equipment to be able to carry out the works required.


Key Responsibilities

  • Vehicle Maintenance: Perform routine services and repairs on HGVs to ensure they are in optimal working condition & efficiency.
  • Diagnostics: Use advanced diagnostic tools to identify and rectify mechanical and electrical faults.
  • Inspections: Conduct thorough vehicle inspections to identify potential issues and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Service Records: Maintain detailed service records for each vehicle, documenting all repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Driver Defects: Respond to driver defects and perform on-site repairs as needed.
  • Carry out MOT preparation to try and achieve 100% pass rate.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other members of the transport team to coordinate maintenance schedules and ensure minimal disruption to operations.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience: Proven experience as an HGV mechanic, with a strong understanding of diesel engines and air systems.
  • Certification: Relevant certifications in vehicle maintenance and repair (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software. (preferred)
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and repair complex issues.
  • Attention to Detail: High attention to detail to ensure all work is performed to the highest standards.
  • Internal combustion engine knowledge preferred but not essential
  • Experience in Hydraulics & rams preferred
  • Welding / Fabrication of benefit but not essential
  • HGV Licence of benefit but not essential.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills to liaise with team members and management.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work in various conditions.
