Job Description

You will lead a team under a one‑team culture, coordinating the design team to deliver required outputs for a portfolio of projects under the guidance of a design manager.

  • Commitment to excellence in Health & Safety (H&S) in design, complying fully with the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM) and all other relevant H&S legislation.
  • An in‑depth knowledge of the layout and interconnectivity of typical water and wastewater treatment works processes and equipment including pumping systems.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with other engineering disciplines and clients.
  • Ability to produce clear and concise mechanical design deliverables across all design stages of a project.
  • Ability to manage design delivery and project manage.
  • Leadership skills to manage and motivate individuals to consistently deliver.
  • Willingness to contribute to and develop technical knowledge networks.
  • A drive to be abreast of professional development and knowledge of current and emerging technical solutions.
  • Flexibility to travel within the UK (including Northern Ireland) and Ireland (where our head office is based).
Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reporting to the Design Manager within a multi‑disciplined team of engineers responsible for producing design deliverables for water, wastewater and process treatment plants.
  • Assisting in all aspects of mechanical design from site surveys of existing assets, optioneering, feasibility studies, detailed design and tender pricing.
  • Production of procurement specifications for mechanical equipment; hydraulic calculations and production of detailed design construction drawings.
  • Project managing third‑party designs and providing design assistance to installation and commissioning teams.
  • Liaising with clients and subcontractors.
  • Working as part of a team to support project delivery function, embracing the ethos of a “one‑team” culture.
  • Ensuring Design, Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies and procedures are always adhered to.
  • Monitoring design delivery performance and efficiency, adjusting and reacting as necessary to ensure targets are achieved and ensuring the MIDP is kept up to date.
  • Producing mechanical design outputs as and when required.
  • Ensuring Glanua and the Clients’ Technical Requirements are met throughout the design.
  • Conducting regular meetings with project delivery teams to allocate resources, monitor the plan and adjust as necessary in consultation with the project delivery teams.
  • Monitoring and updating Design Change Control.
  • Liaising between Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil & Structural Designers.
  • Being involved in the growth and development.
