Rate : Competitive sessional/hourly rate (self‑employed) and retainer

About Edinburgh South Community Football Club

Edinburgh South CFC is one of Scotland’s largest community football clubs, delivering football for over 1,000 players aged 5 to adult across boys’, girls’, disability, recreational and competitive football. We are committed to inclusive, community‑centred sport and ensuring all players receive high‑quality support, including access to physiotherapy and sports therapy.

We are seeking a reliable self‑employed Physiotherapist or Sports Therapist to support player injury assessment, pitch‑side care, and rehabilitation planning across our 11s age groups through to our senior men's and women's teams. Additional appointments may be offered for wider club members. This is an ideal role for a graduate Physiotherapist.

Role Purpose

To provide flexible, high‑quality physiotherapy/sports therapy services to ESCFC players, including injury assessment, pitch‑side cover (when required), and the delivery of evidence‑based rehabilitation programmes in a community football environment.

This role is ideal for a practitioner seeking flexible private‑practice work within a large, supportive grassroots club to grow their client base within the South of Edinburgh.

Key Responsibilities

Provide in-person injury assessments for players aged 11+ through to senior squads, with flexible evening/weekend appointment availability based at our Club House in Inch Park.

Deliver pitch‑side support for selected fixtures (when agreed), including initial assessment, acute care, and return‑to‑play advice.

Provide relevant information and injury‑management guidance for the club as appropriate and agreed.

Create individualised rehabilitation plans, including gym‑based and pitch‑based programmes tailored to players’ developmental stage and capacity.

Communicate clearly with Year Leads, Team Coaches and the club’s Head of Operations to ensure safe decision‑making on player availability.

Maintain accurate clinical and handover notes for all players seen.

Advise on injury‑prevention strategies to support player welfare and long‑term development.

Work in line with ESCFC safeguarding and welfare standards.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements

Undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy, Sports Therapy, Sports Rehabilitation, or equivalent.

HCPC registration (Physiotherapists) or membership of an appropriate governing body (e.g., SST).

Evidence of appropriate pitch‑side first aid/trauma qualification (e.g., IFAS, Sports Trauma Management, FA Level 2 Emergency First Aid).

Experience working with athletes or in pitch‑side/football environments.

Self‑employed status, with ability to invoice for services.

Ability to work independently and manage flexible clinic hours.

Based locally or able to travel reliably to Edinburgh South training/match venues.

Must hold (or be willing to obtain) a PVG for children and adults through Disclosure Scotland.

Experience working with youth athletes (11–18).

Experience working within community/grassroots football.

Postgraduate clinical training or specialist modules (MSK, pitch‑side trauma, rehab programming).

Skills & Attributes

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work with children, young people, and adult players.

High professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality when handling medical information.

Strong clinical reasoning and ability to work under pressure on matchdays.

A positive, player‑centred approach with commitment to ESCFC’s community values.

Reliable, organised, and confident using basic IT systems.
