Cardiothoracic Theatre Scrub Practitioner
To provide a high standard of holistic, evidence based patient care within the Cardiothoracic Theatre Complex by demonstrating a high level of clinical competence in scrubbing/circulating, the ability to manage and practice within a team and to support and supervise the learning of others.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job
To assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence based patient care according to patients care needs, as part of the multi-disciplinary theatre team, demonstrating high standards of clinical practice.
Work within the NMC/ HPC Codes of Professional Conduct.
To support all members of the multi‑disciplinary team.
To assist the Theatre Manager and team leaders to work in collaboration with staff in other areas of the Directorate, the Trust and other purchasers to support a seamless service for patients.
To assist in influencing the overall efficiency of the Cardiothoracic service.

Job responsibilities
- Ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors by adhering to Health & Safety regulations, local and national policies, procedures and standards.
- Surgically scrub for Cardiac and Thoracic surgery, assist the surgical team for safe and effective surgery. Maintaining correct counts in accordance with policy and act as the patient's advocate.
- Responsible for ensuring accurate patient documentation is maintained at all times, with due regard for legal aspects, confidentiality and management of information requirements.
- Ensure correct labelling, handling and transportation of patient specimens according to Trust policy.
- Assist in the management of the clinical area including the development and supervision of staff and monitoring of adherence to Trust and Directorate policies and procedures, the NMC/HPC codes of Professional conduct and other statutory requirements.
- Encourage and support a learning environment, which meets the needs of all students and staff members working within the area.
- Demonstrates the ability to act as a role model and mentor to other members of the multi‑disciplinary team.
- Actively participate and assist in clinical audit and research programmes and to promote proven research based practice, which is clinically effective.
- Maintain own personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the service.
- Assist the Practice development team by providing practical and clinical guidance and providing lectures when necessary.

Person SpecificationAptitude and Abilities
- Effective verbal & non‑verbal communication skills and effective influencing skills.
- Able to adapt effectively and positively to change.
- Documented proven evidence of abilities.
- Ability to teach and supervise junior members of staff.
Qualifications
- Proven RN/ODP/PRACTITIONER Registered with NMC/HPC.
- Relevant theatre based course e.g. ENB 183 or 925.
Knowledge and Experience
- Demonstrable experience within the Healthcare environment or equivalent.
- Proven evidence of recent Continual Professional Development.
- Proven knowledge of and ability to apply evidence‑based practice.
- Proven understanding of leadership skills.
- Demonstrable Mentorship experience.
- Demonstrable Cardiothoracic theatre experience or equivalent.
