The Estates Officer (Mechanical) plays a vital role in ensuring the safe, efficient and reliable operation of mechanical engineering services across the Trust's estate. Acting as a technical specialist, the postholder provides expert maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair and compliance management for a wide range of systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), medical gases, hot and cold water, pressure systems and specialist healthcare installations.

In this supervisory position, the Estates Officer oversees skilled trades staff and specialist contractors, ensuring high‑quality workmanship, safe working practices and minimal disruption to clinical services. The role requires strong communication and relationship‑building skills, as the postholder routinely coordinates with clinical teams, shares technical information, and provides assurance on planned and reactive maintenance activities.

Responsibilities
  • Planning and prioritising tasks through CAFM.
  • Conducting risk assessments and supporting audits.
  • Maintaining statutory records.
  • Managing resources, coordinating emergency responses and providing technical guidance to clinical and non‑clinical teams.
  • Acting as an Authorised/Responsible Person under multiple HTMs to ensure regulatory compliance, operational resilience and effective service delivery aligned with Trust values.
  • Contributing to the development of maintenance strategies, supporting asset improvement, and driving continuous service enhancements by analysing performance data, identifying risks and implementing effective engineering solutions that improve safety, efficiency and patient environments across the Estate.
