Job Overview

Sheffield United Women's Academy are seeking a Physiotherapist to support the delivery of medical services across the Academy, with a particular focus on the Emerging Talent Centre (ETC). This role contributes to the ongoing care, assessment, and rehabilitation of players within a structured and collaborative performance environment.


The successful candidate will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, and rehabilitation of injuries, working closely with the wider medical and physical performance team to ensure coordinated and evidence‑based practice. The role also includes pitch‑side medical cover, ongoing screening and monitoring of players, and maintaining clinical standards in line with CSP and professional requirements.


Key Role Responsibilities

  • Fulfil the role of a chartered physiotherapist in the assessment, diagnosis and rehabilitation of all injuries, with a particular focus on ETC players.
  • Assist with the development of evidence‑based protocols for all areas of physiotherapy relating to the Women’s Academy, using all available resources including the latest research and collaboration with clinical specialists.
  • Assist with Academy player injuries/illnesses in consultation with the wider MDT and medical team.
  • Provide medical cover for Under 12's and ETC Academy fixtures. Liaise with and manage appropriate pitch‑side personnel, opposition medical staff.
  • Record and continuously maintain medical records befitting of the CSP standard, whilst assisting with clinical audits, ensuring standards are being met.
  • Oversee the upkeep, maintenance and audit of all Academy medical notes.
  • Work closely with the Physical Performance departments, and other relevant staff, to ensure optimum rehabilitation and progression of injuries.
  • Deliver, maintain and analyse weekly screening of all Academy players.
  • Maintain all legal and professional qualifications relating to your position within the Club.
  • Observe, monitor and react to the ever‑changing world of sports medicine, keeping up to date with all current research developments.
  • Attend and professionally engage in the internal emergency aid staff CPD programme.
  • Any other reasonable requests as directed by management.

Essential Criteria

  • BSc or MSc in Physiotherapy.
  • Valid HCPC and CSP Registration.
  • Pitch Side Trauma Management qualification (ITMMiF).
  • To complete an Enhanced DBS check upon offer acceptance.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Experience of field‑based sports rehabilitation.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • A strong motivator, with high enthusiasm.
  • Student of the profession, looking to improve and develop.
