The Role

As part of the National Hyperbaric Chamber (NHC) Workshop team, the System Mechanical Technician supports the service and upkeep of our products both on‑site and away from base. You’ll work hands‑on, helping install, test, and commission Dive Saturation systems and associated diving equipment onboard Dive Support Vessels alongside project managers and the wider technical team.


You’ll also play a key role in our asset and maintenance activities—making sure all mechanical elements of fixed dive systems, portable HRFs, LSPs, and life‑support equipment are always ready for use.


What You'll Be Doing

  • Carry out planned and unplanned maintenance on all NHC dive systems, including PHRFs, LSPs, and supporting equipment.
  • Prioritise and record all maintenance tasks in TM Master, ensuring accurate and complete job documentation.
  • Respond to breakdowns and support repairs on client‑owned equipment when needed.
  • Raise requisitions for spare parts and ensure the correct components are available for ongoing work.
  • Work in accordance with all relevant IMCA DESIGN standards (DO18/23/24/53/63).
  • Provide flexibility for rota/shift work to support trials, tests, verification activities, and general workshop operations.

What We're Looking For

  • Have completed a recognised technical apprenticeship/training programme (SVQ or equivalent), or able to demonstrate relevant industry experience in a similar mechanical technician role.
  • Hands‑on experience with breathing equipment, compressors, and general mechanical assembly.
  • Competent in small‑bore pipework, welding, and soldering.
  • Basic electrical aptitude and the ability to read technical drawings, datasheets, and work instructions.
  • Understanding of QA, Health & Safety practices, and IMCA guidelines/standards.
  • Knowledge of diving equipment and life‑support systems.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and general IT tools.
