Job Summary

We are looking for a full‑time (37.5 hrs per week) Band 6 Senior Physiotherapist to work within our innovative paediatric therapy team, providing a quality service across Peterborough City Hospital, Hinchingbrooke Hospital and Stamford Hospital. The department serves a busy musculoskeletal out‑patient department with referrals from local GP practices, A&E, paediatric consultants and out‑of‑area hospitals.


In‑patient Paediatric Service

  • Respiratory conditions – e.g. pneumonia, cystic fibrosis
  • Orthopaedic – planned surgery or trauma such as fractures
  • Neurological – neuro‑developmental delay or neurological trauma such as head injuries
  • Non‑respiratory input to NICU

This post is rotational through the paediatric specialities within the service, with each rotation lasting approximately nine months.


Key Duties

The senior physiotherapist will:



  • Provide clinical assessment and develop treatment plans for children referred to the service.
  • Apply sound paediatric physiotherapy knowledge and skills within a multidisciplinary team, supporting and guiding Band 5 staff.
  • Ensure safe, efficient and effective patient‑focussed care aligned with evidence‑based practice, local and national standards.
  • Lead on service development, audit and research initiatives to promote best practice and align with trust and national priorities.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC Registered

Desirable Qualifications

  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)
  • Practice educator qualification

Essential Experience

  • Post‑graduate experience in paediatric physiotherapy service
  • Broad junior rotations in the acute NHS setting, including paediatrics and MSK rotations
  • Experience in multidisciplinary team (MDT) working

Desirable Experience

  • Member or participant of a relevant special interest group

Essential Key Skills/Abilities

  • Work autonomously and within the MDT
  • Strong clinical reasoning, assessment and treatment skills in paediatric physiotherapy
  • Manage own caseload and priorities effectively
  • Demonstrate ongoing CPD and use of evidence‑based practice, including specialist courses
  • Use of basic IT systems

Desirable Key Skills/Abilities
Participation in service development, audit and quality improvement projects
Essential Other Requirements

  • Meet travel requirements – manual car driver
  • Availability for weekend work and on‑call rota

Desirable Other Requirements
Knowledge of national policies and procedures, particularly safeguarding children and the National Service framework for children
