Job Summary

We are looking for a caring, experienced, creative and dynamic physiotherapist to fulfil the role of rotational specialist band 6 physiotherapist at Furness General Hospital.


Rotational Clinical Areas

  • Trauma and Orthopaedics
  • ICU/Surgery
  • Elderly care and Frailty
  • Acute Medicine (including acute neuro management)
  • Acute respiratory
  • MSK outpatients (consultant referrals)

Main Duties

The primary responsibility is to oversee daily clinical provision of physiotherapy within a particular clinical area: assessment of patients, development of goals and plans, providing required treatment, and contributing to MDT for discharge planning.


The role includes providing clinical training and support for other physiotherapists, active participation in In‑Service Training (IST) and external education, maintaining CPD standards, and disseminating training to the wider team.


Essential: Acute respiratory experience with on‑call and weekend working. Prior experience at Band 5 level or equivalent is essential.


Other expectations: communication skills, MDT working experience, ability to respond well to difficult situations, safeguarding awareness, hardworking, problem‑solving approach, supervision of junior staff (inductions, appraisals, training).


Qualifications

  • Health and Care Professions Council registered Physiotherapist.
  • Honors Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy approved by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy / Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Evidence of relevant post‑graduate specialist clinical education.

Experience

  • Commitment to independent learning and continued professional development.
  • Team leadership experience.
  • Involvement in service development.
  • Respiratory and on‑call experience within an acute service.
  • Experience of working within a team.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Comprehensive rotational experience as a Staff grade in core competencies (musculoskeletal, neurology, cardio‑respiratory).
  • Experience of patient management: prioritisation, assessment, treatment, and discharge planning. (Desirable)

Desirable

  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy or equivalent.
  • Experience of patient management including prioritisation, assessment, treatment and discharge planning.

About Us

We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal – and a range of community healthcare premises.


FGH and RLI provide a full range of general hospital services including Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various consultant‑led services. WGH offers general hospital services and an Urgent Treatment Centre.
