About the Role – Skilled Mechanical Fitter

Do you want to be part of our energetic team of HGV/PSV/bus mechanical engineers and maintenance staff repairing our fleet of buses? If yes, then this Skilled Mechanical Fitter position at our Chelmsford depot could just be the job for you! It offers technical up-skilling and career progression. We'll also provide all the PPE and tools you’ll need to succeed in your role.


The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:



  • Vehicle fault diagnostics, servicing, repairs and vehicle inspections in accordance with FirstBus Standard Engineering Operating Procedures
  • To fully comply with all HS&E legislation along with Group Policies
  • To fully comply with all relevant Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Maintain and develop technical skills as required
  • Attend and assist on vehicle breakdowns

Location: Chelmsford


Hours: 39 per week, 4 days out of 7 (including weekends) on a rotating pattern of early shifts 05:00‑15:00 and late shifts 14:30‑00:30


Salary: £23.01 per hour – overtime also available


About you

  • Do you have a minimum Level 3 NVQ standard of equivalent (i.e., City & Guilds Level 1 & 2) qualification?
  • Do you have a flexible approach to working hours?
  • An aptitude to develop others within the Engineering Team
  • Do you hold a clean valid UK drivers licence?
  • A PCV licence is desirable or show a willingness to obtain PCV licence is essential as we will help you obtain your PCV
  • Experience of working with buses/coaches would be advantageous, but not a necessity
