The role

As a Ship Mechanical Discipline Lead, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the heart of one of the UK’s most exciting defence programmes - the Type 31 frigate build. You’ll shape mechanical production strategies, drive operational excellence, and lead delivery across multiple ship builds. This is your opportunity to make a real impact on national defence while advancing your career in a dynamic and forward-thinking environment.

Day-to-day you’ll be:

  • Setting production strategy, standards and targets to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Owning the quality and schedule of delegated work packages, driving continuous improvement.
  • Implementing control mechanisms and performance indicators to monitor progress and highlight variances.
  • Forecasting resource requirements and conducting weekly reviews aligned with project plans.
  • Capturing lessons learned and feeding them back into business processes for future success.

This role is full time, 36 hours per week and is based on site at Rosyth.

Essential experience
  • Background in a mechanical trade is advantageous.
  • Strong experience in project management, controls, budgets, and commercial terms.
  • Full lifecycle experience from manufacturing through to commissioning.
  • Proficient in ERP systems such as IFS or SAP.
  • Recent and relevant experience in marine or oil & gas sectors.
Qualifications
  • ONC in a relevant construction trade or an equivalent engineering qualification.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
