Summary of the Shift Mechanical Technician role

We are looking for a Mechanical / Electrical (M&E) Technician to join our Shift team in Cramlington, on an attractive 4 on 6 off shift pattern. Within this role, you will be responsible for executing on-site maintenance tasks, including Mechanical repairs, modifications, plant upgrades, installations and commissioning, ensuring all equipment complies with statutory and regulatory requirements.


This role operates on a 12-hour shift pattern, consisting of 2 days, 2 nights and 6 off.


Your responsibilities

  • Adhere to the Sterling lockout/tagout (LOTO) and permit-to-work procedures
  • Carrying out Mechanical repairs, modifications, plant upgrades, installation, and commissioning.
  • Maintain and optimise supporting utility systems integral for plant operability.
  • Commitment to adhere to all EHS and Quality standards
  • Demonstrate problem solving and diagnostic techniques on static and rotational Mechanical equipment.
  • Identify system / asset improvement opportunities to enable improved plant reliability and efficiency.
  • Read and interpret PID and Isometric Engineering drawings.
  • Operate effectively both independently and as an integrated team member

Requirements for the role

  • Relevant qualifications in one of the core disciplines is essential.
  • Having a Mechanical COMPex certificate is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided.
  • Previous experience within the chemical industry is desirable, but not essential.
  • Capable of prioritising tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Self-motivated with a can-do attitude.
  • Must adept at problem-solving in a methodical manner and have good fault-finding skills.
  • Should be able to demonstrate the ability to appropriately respond to situations with the necessary level of urgency.
  • General understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment is desirable.
  • It is preferred to have relevant prior experience in identifying and eliminating root causes.
