We are looking for Service Engineers or Superintendents with a background in Mechatronics or Electrical & Automation (E&A) to join our Global Field Service Team. If you are a Mechanic eager to learn and transition into the Mechatronic and E&A field, we are excited to consider your application as well!


The preferred location for this position is in Trieste (Italy) but also Genova (Italy) and Fareham (UK) are negotiable. Remote work is possible when not onsite/in the field.


Your role and responsibilities

Join our Global Field Service team and work on Wärtsilä’s newest 4‑stroke engines and systems (W14, W31, W46X, W2X) across marine and land‑based installations. You’ll handle commissioning, overhauls, troubleshooting, on‑site repairs, audits and analyses, as well as upgrades and retrofits on next‑generation 4S products. Parts, Field Service & Workshop is a key enabler of our customers’ transition to a smarter, more sustainable future—and we never compromise on safety, the environment, or wellbeing.

As a Service Engineer, Mechatronic you will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Perform commissioning, overhauls, troubleshooting, on‑site repairs, audits/analysis, upgrades and retrofits.
  • Work across marine and land‑based sites with Wärtsilä’s newest engines and equipment.
  • Diagnose complex issues and implement sustainable, customer‑centric solutions.
  • Document work, share learnings, and contribute to continuous improvement and best practices.

What You’ll Bring

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or comparable know‑how gained in the field.
  • Solid English skills (spoken and written) to collaborate with customers and colleagues.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and a hands‑on, flexible approach.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to fast‑changing environments.
  • Readiness to travel about 200–230 days/year, including abroad.

Nice to have

  • Mechatronics or Electrical & Automation competence.
  • Previous field/onboard vessel experience.
