Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and experienced physiotherapist to join our Orthopaedic Team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is keen to specialise and develop in orthopaedics. The post would be static within the orthopaedic physiotherapy team at Worcester Royal Hospital, with the opportunity to rotate to the Alexandra Hospital in order to gain elective orthopaedic experience and to support both services when required.


You will be working as part of a dynamic integrated therapy team providing physiotherapy to orthopaedic in‑patients. There is the opportunity to be involved in the development of the services across both elective and trauma. You will have previous experience of working within in‑patient orthopaedics, demonstrate a good broad base of orthopaedic knowledge and have the ability to manage a team of staff and students. You will be able to develop management skills and work closely with other senior staff within the team.


You will benefit from regular supervision, in‑service training, and access to specialist clinicians to help develop your clinical and leadership skills. You will be encouraged to engage in ongoing CPD and contribute to the education and supervision of junior staff.


There is the requirement to participate in our on‑call service, as well as weekend and 7‑day working rotas.


Main Duties

  • Provide high quality patient focused care through assessment, diagnosis, development and delivery of individual treatment programmes.
  • Take responsibility for own caseload within a defined area of service or particular patient type.
  • Provide supervision, support and education to qualified and unqualified staff and students.
  • Participate in departmental audit in support of evidence‑based practice.
  • Communicate with the MDT to provide comprehensive assessment and admission prevention appropriate to the speciality.
  • Undertake outpatient activity appropriate within the area of speciality.
  • Contribute to the 7‑day service on a rota basis and complete on‑call over a 24‑hour period.
  • Ensure professional and legal accountability for all aspects of practice, including clinical assessment and risk analysis of patients presenting with simple and complex/multifactorial pathologies within trauma.
  • Use advanced clinical reasoning skills, manual assessment techniques and comprehensive knowledge of physiotherapy treatments to formulate individual treatment programmes based on evidence of best practice and adjust as necessary.

Qualifications

Essential: Diploma or degree in physiotherapy; Health Professional Council Registration; appropriate postgraduate qualifications or training.

Essential: Broad experience in core rotations demonstrating a wide range of knowledge from different specialities; experience working in an acute NHS environment; evidence of relevant and recent CPD; supervision and development of assistants and students.


Desirable: Training of other MDT members; active participation in audit or research; experience at a senior level in orthopaedics.
