Senior Specialist Spinal Physiotherapist - Chedington

Chedington is Hobbs new state of the art site which is growing at an exciting speed. This is allowing us to build upon our already experienced multidisciplinary team so that we can offer exceptional rehabilitation to more clients. Chedington has a number of pieces of exciting Neurotechology, including the only UK Lokomat that is able to treat both paediatrics and adults. At Chedington we are really lucky to have the opportunity to think beyond the normal remit for therapy and can be more imaginative with our approach. We are able to use activities such as paddleboarding on site and rock climbing to challenge our clients within functional and fun tasks and have the space and environment on site to take clients on adaptive cycle rides but with still a strong focus on excellence in therapy.

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic experienced spinal physiotherapist to join our existing MDT, working out of this world-class facility, providing intensive rehabilitation for adults and children with spinal cord injury.

We are passionate about pursuing the latest advances in research and technology to support our clients and staff to achieve their full potential, through involvement in research projects, development of services using advanced technology, and support for training and CPD.

Main duties of the job

The person who gets this role will have the exciting opportunity to be able to join the team at an early stage of development of our service and will be able to help us mould what we can offer at Chedington. We receive a wide range of referrals from different sectors such as medico-legal, NHS, charities and self referrals. Hobbs partners with the Rugby Football Union (RFU) Injured Players Foundations (IPF), Help for Heroes, Injured Jockey Fund and the Spinal Injury Association (SIA), to name a few.

The Senior Physiotherapist will be at Hobbs Chedington as part of an experienced multidisciplinary team, working with inpatient and outpatient clients who have spinal injuries but work alongside colleagues who will treating clients with complex neurological conditions including Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injuries and complex poly-trauma including amputees. The post-holder will have excellent clinical skills and experience in spinal rehabilitation across the clinical pathway, including assessment, treatment planning, and discharge planning.

Supervision and training will be provided, as well as access to exciting CPD opportunities, including working with advanced neurotechnologies and involvement in national and global research projects.

In 2005, neuro physiotherapists Helen Hobbs and Nicky Ellis set up Hobbs Rehabilitation and since then it has expanded rapidly offering an exceptional level of personalised skill and expertise. Now operating from various locations across the South of England, Hobbs Rehabilitation provides specialist inpatient and outpatient neurological rehabilitation for adults and children across the south of England.

An expert team of over 100 therapists, including OT, PT, SLT and Psychology, provide an interdisciplinary patient-centred neuro rehabilitation service, ensuring the individual is placed at the centre of care.

Their role will be to work with other spinal specialists to treat residential and outpatient Spinal clients and work alongside colleagues who will treat clients who have complex neurological conditions including Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injuries, and complex poly-trauma including amputees. The post-holder will have excellent clinical skills and experience in spinal rehabilitation across the clinical pathway, including assessment, treatment planning, and discharge planning. This role would be suited to someone with experience looking to develop their skills in spinal cord injury as well as Neurology and amputee rehab. Supervision and specialist training will be provided, as well as access to exciting CPD opportunities, including working with advanced neurotechnologies and involvement in national and global research projects.

  • Communicate professionally and effectively in all written communications with patients, carers, Hobbs staff and external stakeholders, through email, letters, written reports and comments on social media accounts and company websites.
  • Ensure client confidentiality is maintained at all times, in line with Hobbs Rehabilitation policies and procedures.
  • Use advanced communication skills to deliver clinical advice and treatment sensitively.
  • Recognize peoples needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly.
  • Respect and respond to clients\' individual, cultural, and religious needs.
  • Gain consent for treatment and information-sharing, considering barriers such as dementia and cognitive impairments, in compliance with the Mental Capacity Act.
  • Support clients with communication and cognitive impairments to communicate effectively.
  • Communicate information from Hobbs Senior Management to wider teams clearly and efficiently.
  • CLINICAL: Practice safely within the legal and ethical boundaries of the specific profession.
  • Assess patients with acquired physical and cognitive impairments using a range of formal and informal assessments.
  • Evaluate assessment results and generate diagnoses and clinical strengths/limitations profiles in line with clinical evidence bases and current practice.
  • Formulate patient-centred goals in conjunction with MDT.
  • Create and provide clinically effective, high-quality one-to-one and group intervention to patients with acquired physical and cognitive impairments, using a comprehensive knowledge of evidence-informed practice and treatment options.
  • Deliver high-quality care in a variety of clinical settings including inpatient rehabilitation units, outpatient clinics, patient homes, care homes, and community locations.
  • Evaluate patients progress using published outcome measures, adapting goals and treatment plans accordingly.
  • Liaise regularly with the Hobbs MDT and wider care teams to ensure continued patient safety and clinical effectiveness.
  • Organise and plan the caseload in conjunction with the service lead and other clinical team members to meet the patients and service needs, readjusting plans as situations change or arise.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate clinical notes using site-specific software and local procedures, in line with professional standards.
  • Write high-quality patient reports, including MDT discharge reports for inpatients.
  • Attend and contribute to patient and family meetings, both face-to-face and via video.
  • Ensure safe and competent use of clinical equipment, providing guidance to staff and patients where clinically appropriate.
  • ADMINISTRATIVE: Maintain up-to-date and complete clinical records using Hobbs-specific procedures and software.
  • Maintain an up-to-date work diary using Hobbs-specific procedures and software.
  • Answer the telephone and respond to emails and chat messages within a timely manner.
  • Ensure client confidentiality is maintained at all times, in line with Hobbs Rehabilitation policies and procedures.

  • Participate in the recruitment and induction of new staff as delegated by senior management colleagues.

  • Has worked in UK healthcare setting either privately or within the NHS
