Overview

Manage and co‑ordinate radiographic activities and staff within the designated area of responsibility to provide an accurate, efficient and high quality radiation treatment service. Ensure the safe and competent use of radiation and the highest standard of patient care, in compliance with the accredited Radiotherapy Department Quality System and the Professional Code of Conduct.

Actively contribute to the development of Radiotherapy Services and maintain close communication and involvement with all Christie radiotherapy sites and host sites.

Contribute to the efficient running of the service while working within The Christie NHS Foundation Trust policies and Health & Safety legislation.

In addition to this permanent post, a permanent 4‑day, 30‑hour post is available (day off being Wednesday). Fixed‑term 1‑year maternity contracts may also be offered.

Communication Skills
  • Ensuring accurate recording/input of treatment and planning data.
  • Analyzing systematically and evaluating all data and information relevant to patients’ diagnosis, ensuring patients and their relatives are treated with dignity and respect at all times.
  • Communicating confidential sensitive information and providing emotional support to patients and their carers/relatives.
Knowledge, Training and Experience
  • Undertaking and evaluating radiation dose delivery and complex calculations involving a range of radiation types and energies.
  • Interpreting, monitoring and evaluating treatment prescriptions to ensure that radiotherapy is delivered accurately and reproducibly in accordance with the quality system.
  • Accurately positioning patients and operating highly complex radiotherapy and imaging equipment along the radiotherapy pathway.
Personal Skills
  • Liaising with the multi‑disciplinary team to ensure that adequate information and support is available to patients.
  • Leading, co‑ordinating, supervising and managing a team of staff.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance for junior staff.
  • Exercising effort in patient transfer and other manual handling tasks as required.

The Christie at Oldham opened in 2010 and is one of three satellites delivering radiotherapy across the network. In 22/23 the centre was refurbished and now houses two new Agility linacs and a new Philips scanner.

Working hours must be flexible to fit the needs of the service. This may include evening work, some weekend working, and working bank holidays. Individuals will be expected to participate in all shift patterns.
