Senior Project Manager – Smart Building Technology

Location: Greater London (client sites, with office and hybrid flexibility)
Salary: Competitive, based on experience

The Role

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Project Manager to oversee the delivery of large-scale, multi-technology smart building projects. These typically span ICT cabling, networking, security, AV, BMS, IoT systems and MSI services, with project values of £5m+.

The Senior Project Manager will take ownership of project delivery, ensuring quality, budget, and programme objectives are met. You will manage a team of Project Managers and engineers while working closely with commercial, design, and operations colleagues. A strong technical background, financial acumen, and excellent client-facing skills are essential.

This role suits someone who is both strategic and hands-on: comfortable leading multi-disciplinary teams, managing client relationships at a senior level, and ensuring operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Sales & Bidding

Support high-value and complex tenders with input on delivery strategy, programme, and cost validation.

*

Work with technical and commercial teams to shape solutions and ensure they are deliverable.

*

Represent the delivery function at client presentations and bid interviews.

Project Mobilisation

*

Define methodology, programmes, and resource planning at project initiation.

*

Lead mobilisation meetings and coordinate across multiple technology disciplines.

*

Ensure dashboards, schedules, risk registers, and key deliverables are in place prior to commencement.

Project Delivery

*

Provide senior leadership and oversight across multiple workstreams.

*

Monitor progress, risks, and budgets, ensuring corrective action where required.

*

Carry out quality assurance and site inspections to maintain project standards.

*

Manage financials, including valuations, invoicing, and reporting.

*

Lead client reporting sessions and progress reviews.

Handover & Close-Out

*

Oversee testing, commissioning, and sign-off in line with contractual requirements.

*

Ensure O&M manuals, warranties, and handover documentation are delivered to a high standard.

*

Coordinate with support teams for a smooth transition to ongoing service and maintenance.

*

Capture lessons learned and ensure snag resolution.

Financial & Commercial Management

*

Own the project budget, ensuring accurate forecasting and cost control.

*

Monitor financial risks, changes, and opportunities.

*

Lead regular financial reporting to stakeholders.

Client & Stakeholder Management

*

Act as the senior point of contact for key clients and stakeholders.

*

Build and maintain trusted relationships across all parties.

*

Resolve escalations and ensure client satisfaction.

*

Manage subcontractors and supply chain partners effectively.

Health & Safety

*

Champion health and safety across all sites.

*

Ensure compliance with relevant standards and company policies.

*

Promote a culture of continuous improvement in HSE practices.

About You

*

10+ years’ experience managing large, multi-technology projects (AV, ICT, security, networking, BMS, IoT).

*

Strong leadership skills, with experience mentoring and managing Project Managers.

*

Commercially and financially astute with experience managing multi-million-pound budgets.

*

Excellent communication and client-facing skills, with a track record of building strong relationships.

*

Organised, proactive, and able to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment

The Future of Edge Computing Jobs: Careers That Don’t Exist Yet

Edge computing is fast becoming one of the most disruptive trends in digital technology. By moving data processing closer to where it is generated—on devices, sensors, and local servers—edge computing reduces latency, cuts bandwidth costs, and enables real-time decision-making. It powers everything from smart factories and self-driving cars to healthcare monitoring and augmented reality. In the UK, edge computing is increasingly important for critical industries: manufacturing, logistics, defence, and healthcare. As 5G networks expand and billions of Internet of Things (IoT) devices come online, edge solutions are being deployed nationwide. The UK government’s Digital Strategy and investment in smart infrastructure further highlight the role edge will play in national competitiveness. Yet we are only at the beginning. As edge converges with artificial intelligence, robotics, and quantum technologies, the jobs of tomorrow will look very different. Many of the most vital edge computing jobs of the next two decades don’t exist yet. This article explores why new careers will emerge, the roles likely to appear, how today’s roles will evolve, why the UK is well positioned, and how professionals can prepare now.

Seasonal Hiring Peaks for Edge Computing Jobs: The Best Months to Apply & Why

The UK's edge computing sector has emerged as one of Europe's most dynamic and technically demanding technology markets, with roles spanning from junior edge systems engineers to principal edge architects and heads of distributed computing. With edge computing positions commanding salaries from £35,000 for graduate systems engineers to £150,000+ for senior principal architects, understanding when organisations actively recruit can dramatically accelerate your career progression in this cutting-edge and rapidly expanding field. Unlike traditional cloud computing roles, edge computing hiring follows distinct patterns influenced by IoT deployment cycles, 5G infrastructure rollouts, and distributed systems project timelines. The sector's unique combination of hardware-software integration, real-time processing requirements, and ultra-low latency demands creates predictable hiring windows that strategic professionals can leverage to advance their careers in building tomorrow's distributed computing infrastructure. This comprehensive guide explores the optimal timing for edge computing job applications in the UK, examining how enterprise IoT strategies, telecommunications infrastructure deployment, and Industry 4.0 initiatives influence recruitment patterns, and why strategic timing can determine whether you join a pioneering edge research team or miss the opportunity to develop the next generation of distributed computing systems.

Pre-Employment Checks for Edge Computing Jobs: DBS, References & Right-to-Work and more Explained

Pre-employment screening in edge computing reflects the discipline's unique position at the intersection of distributed systems architecture, real-time processing, and critical infrastructure deployment. Edge computing professionals often have privileged access to mission-critical systems, industrial control networks, and sensitive operational data that form the backbone of autonomous systems and real-time decision-making capabilities. The edge computing industry operates within complex regulatory frameworks spanning cyber security directives, industrial safety standards, and emerging IoT governance regulations. Edge computing specialists must demonstrate not only technical competence in distributed architecture and low-latency systems but also deep understanding of operational technology security, industrial protocols, and the safety implications of real-time autonomous systems. Modern edge computing roles frequently involve managing industrial control systems, autonomous vehicle networks, smart city infrastructure, and critical operational systems across multiple security domains and regulatory frameworks simultaneously. The combination of system-level privileges, real-time control capabilities, and safety-critical responsibilities makes thorough candidate verification essential for maintaining security, operational continuity, and public safety in edge-deployed systems.
