Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced senior Physiotherapist with specialist knowledge and skills in post‑operative rehabilitation following Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery + Hand Surgery and the acute physiotherapy management of Trauma, Head and Neck surgery, Breast reconstruction, Burns and acquired hand conditions. You will be crucial to developing and transforming our services and care pathways, providing clinical leadership to ensure the provision of excellent patient care. You will work alongside and gain peer support from other senior staff within the team and department. The therapy team has excellent working relationships with the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Head and Neck and Trauma and Orthopaedic multi‑disciplinary teams as well as the other therapy teams at NNUH. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work in both inpatient and outpatient settings across all areas of the specialty. The post holder will be included in the Physiotherapy Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in‑patient weekend roster to fulfil the 7‑day working commitments required for this post and will also participate in the on‑call rota. There will not be any alternative dates or remote interviews as there will be a practical element to the interview process.


Core Responsibilities

  • Assess, prioritise and manage own caseload of in and outpatients, determine clinical diagnosis and treatment indicated, and maintain records as a legally autonomous practitioner. Patient presentations may be complex and highly complex.
  • Train, supervise and monitor other physiotherapists, therapy assistant practitioners, assistants and students on placement, with appropriate support.
  • Provide clinical leadership within the specialties, including educational, professional and managerial guidance.
  • Have an active role in the planning, development, coordination, delivery and evaluation of the physiotherapy service provided to patients within and outreaching from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Deputise for the Physiotherapy Operational Lead / Senior Physiotherapy staff as required.
  • Work will be undertaken without direct supervision. Clinical/professional supervision may take the form of formal training, clinical reasoning sessions and occasional direct observation of practice. Advice and support is always available.

Travel & Parking

Staff parking is available onsite; however, it is limited during core working hours and more capacity is available in the evening and at weekends. Staff are allocated spaces fairly and may be placed on a waiting list if we are at full capacity. The NNUH is served by a number of public buses; discounted monthly passes with First Bus & Konect are available. The Costessey Park and Ride runs regularly each day from 06:30 to 20:45 and is free for NHS staff. Applications to the Travel Office are required for this service. The NNUH also offers a discounted service from the airport P&R and provides a salary sacrifice scheme, bicycle racks, a Beryl station, and other transport benefits.


DBS Requirements

Any applicant must undertake a DBS check as a Criminal Record and Barring Check. New employees or staff registering with the Staff Bank may need to meet this cost unless salary is below Band 4.


Employment Details

Should you be appointed to the post, we will need to establish any previous NHS service via the ESR IAT and accept the submission of your application as your agreement to this.


Professional Registration

You will need to have current UK professional registration where this is a requirement of the role.
