Job Summary

Join our orthopaedic and musculoskeletal medical education team at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in a split orthopaedic education and musculoskeletal physiotherapy role. You will assist in the teaching and delivery of 2‑week musculoskeletal placements for 3rd, 4th and 5th year medical students in partnership with the University of Birmingham and Aston University Medical Schools. The role also includes participation in postgraduate teaching and the development of clinical audit, service evaluation and academic writing projects.


Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with the Senior Clinical Teaching Fellow to deliver and evaluate the undergraduate medical education service.
  • Present to large cohorts and small groups (1:1, small group, lecture based, practical sessions, simulated teaching) in the field of musculoskeletal and orthopaedic medicine.
  • Develop and conduct clinical and educational audits, service evaluations, and quality improvement projects to improve and monitor service provision.
  • Provide physiotherapy services to musculoskeletal outpatients to a high standard within the Trust and community clinics.
  • Perform advanced assessment of patients with diverse and complex presentations, determine a clinical diagnosis, and provide effective treatment plans as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive and up‑to‑date documentation in line with departmental and CSP standards.
  • Liaise with the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated service delivery and provide advice and instruction to relatives and carers.
  • Work evenings and weekends as part of contracted hours and travel to community venues as required.
  • Assist in coordinating the training and development of trust‑employed educators and raise the profile of education within the Trust and external agencies.

Professional Qualifications & Experience

  • BSc Physiotherapy.
  • HCPC Registration.
  • Previous experience teaching or mentoring healthcare students.
  • Excellent presentation skills.

Excellent communication, analytical and clinical reasoning skills, initiative, and the ability to work independently and within a team.
