Wehave an exciting opportunity for a skilled, enthusiastic clinician who enjoysworking with children in an integrated multidisciplinary team. This post isto manage our complex rehabilitation patients in our Childrens OutpatientService providing care for children with Chronic Pain, Rheumatology,Musculoskeletal and Orthopaedic related conditions.


Thepost holder will provide leadership and management of the outpatientdepartment.


Theywill work closely with the multidisciplinary team including medical staff,nursing staff, occupational therapists, speech therapists, play therapists,dieticians and psychologists. They will also liaise with other agencies thatsupport children and their families.


TheChildrens Physiotherapy Team is committed to the concepts of clinicalgovernance and staff development through appraisal, training, research andaudit.


Thepost holder may be involved in research projects, and will be expected to carry out service improvement and development, audits of their practice andof the service.

Main duties of the job

Thepost holder will work as part of the childrens physiotherapy team providinghighly specialist care for children accessing the Orthopaedic, Pain andRheumatology service at The Leeds Childrens Hospital. They will provideleadership within the childrens Outpatient teams demonstrating a highstandard of leadership skills and behaviours


Basedat the Leeds General Infirmary, the post holder will provide out-patientassessment and management for children in Leeds and the Yorkshire region.They will be a key member of the specialist Rheumatology and Pain MDTsproviding assessments and treatment , follow up care and telephone liaisonfor this highly complex group of children, their carers and the regionaltherapists working with them locally. The post holder will provide managementand leadership for the childrens therapy department.


Keyrelationships will be with other physiotherapists at both Leeds and theregional hospitals including the paediatric physiotherapy team, nursingstaff, specialist nurses, medical staff, dietician, occupational therapist,psychologist, speech and language therapist, play therapist, communityservices, social services and education services.


Thepost holder will contribute to the paediatric out of hours service at theLeeds Childrens Hospital.

Thechildrens physiotherapy team is a team of approximately 40 physiotherapistsand physiotherapy assistants who work across Leeds Childrens Hospital. Theyhave a wide scope of experience and enjoy developing and teaching new membersof the team.

Job responsibilities

Toperform the advanced physiotherapeutic assessment, diagnosis and treatment ofpatients within this specialist field who may have complex physical andpsychological conditions and/or chronic presentation. He/She will play a key role in thedevelopment, implementation and evaluation of specialist physiotherapyprogrammes and packages of care.


Asan experienced physiotherapist the jobholder will assist in co-ordinating theactivities of the team and outpatient department ensuring efficient andeffective service provision. He/shewill be required to ensure effective communication is maintained at alltimes, whilst providing training, supervision and clinical expertise toqualified and unqualified staff and students.


Asa lead clinician in this speciality, the jobholder will act as a role modelto the physiotherapy team, promoting quality evidence based practice,developing the physiotherapy team and contributing to the effectivemanagement of the team in the absence of the clinical service manager..


JOBDIMENSIONS


Thepost holder will be responsible for managing their own individual caseloadwhich will be varied and on occasions require prioritisation to best meet theservice demands.


Toundertake all aspects of work as an autonomous practitioner within thisspecialist field.


He/Shewill be required to support the Clinical Service Manager in the day to day


managementof this team of physiotherapists, support staff and students.


Person Specification
Experience

  • Extensive post graduate clinical experience at a senior level in paediatric musculo-skeletal physiotherapy, rheumatology and chronic pain
  • Supervision of staff
  • Acute Paediatric Respiratory Physiotherapy
  • Developmental physiotherapy
  • Service review and development

Qualifications

  • Degree in physiotherapy or equivalent
  • HPC registration
  • Significant post-graduate education at specialist level 3, M level or professional equivalent relevant to paediatric physiotherapy.
  • Member of CSP
  • Relevant validated clinical courses.

Additional Requirements

  • Clear vision of role and commitment to speciality.
  • Ability to participate in out of hours paediatric respiratory service.
  • Moving and handling patients and equipment is a requirement of this post
  • Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post (with reasonable adjustments if necessary), including clearance on blood borne viruses in compliance with Trust Policy
