Due to retirement and internal promotion, there is an exciting opportunity for Band 6 Physiotherapists working up to 37.5 hours to join the Community Paediatric Therapies Service.


The post holders will provide Physiotherapy assessment and treatment to children aged 0-19 years including within the specialist educational provision setting. The posts are based at West Acklam Centre but there is also the requirement for independent travel around community settings within the Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland region. It involves working within the wider integrated Paediatric Therapies Service which includes the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy teams covering the acute services at The James Cook University Hospital. The post holders will be based in the community, working with children of all ages. The posts entail working within multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams offering specialist Physiotherapy assessment, intervention and rehabilitation, providing advice where needed to other professionals regarding the children\'s physical management.


The post holders will be members of the Paediatric Therapies Service which includes Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Therapy Support workers and administrative staff. The majority of the team work within the community, however you will also work closely with Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists working within the acute setting at The James Cook University Hospital.


Main duties of the job

We are a friendly, dynamic and supportive team who all work together to provide the best possible outcomes for the children, young people and their families. There will be the opportunity to develop more advanced clinical, leadership and service development skills.


To provide assessment and interventions to children/young people aged 0-19 years old with a variety of conditions, including complex needs who are resident within the South Tees region.


Undergraduate or postgraduate experience working within Paediatric Physiotherapy would be advantageous but an enthusiasm for working with a wide range of children/young people up to the age of 19 is essential.


Close working with parents, educational and other health professionals is essential. You will need to be able to work as part of a team and on your own, frequently using your own initiative. The role will require being involved with clients exhibiting a wide range of multiple, medical, social and emotional problems as well as home/nursery/school visits, rehabilitation and education.


The ability to travel independently is an essential part of this post.

Person Specification
Knowledge and Skills

  • Evidence of advanced clinical reasoning skills.
  • Demonstrates competent IT and system skills.
  • Able to access independent transport for travel to community visits.
  • Demonstrates a highly specialist clinical knowledge and skills relevant to Paediatric Physiotherapy
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritise and co-ordinate own workload and that of others.
  • Demonstrates excellent organisational/delegation skills
  • Demonstrates an ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates an ability to motivate staff by providing a positive role model.
  • Evidence of working in Paediatric Physiotherapy services within the NHS.

Qualifications and Training

  • To hold a Diploma or degree awarded by professional body CSP.
  • Registered as to fit to practice by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Attendance at the leadership and development and improvement programme (4.5 days)
  • Evidence of Paediatric post graduate clinical training and development

Experience

  • Evidence of broad Physiotherapy clinical experience related to paediatrics e.g. neurology, learning difficulties
  • Evidence of adaptability and ability to prioritise.
  • Evidence of effective people management skills inc. delegation.
  • Able to evidence leadership experience
  • Paediatric Physiotherapy experience as a student or post -graduate
  • Evidence of post graduate training/experience in leadership

Personal Attributes

  • Display of effective communication skills.
  • Evidence of a flexible approach to working.
  • Demonstrate an enthusiasm for working with children

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
