Job role: Senior Mechanical Estimator
Client: Leading Building Services Contractor
Location: Cambridge
Salary: £65,000-£75,000 + package


Our client are a respected and forward-thinking building services contractor specialising in large-scale commercial projects valued up to £10 million. Renowned for delivering high-quality MEP installations across sectors such as offices, education, healthcare, mixed-use developments, and data centres, they are now seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join their growing team.


The Role

As Senior Mechanical Estimator, you will play a key role in securing major projects and shaping the commercial success of the business. You'll be responsible for producing accurate, competitive mechanical estimates and tenders, working closely with the pre-construction, design, and project delivery teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed mechanical estimates for commercial projects up to £10m.
  • Analyse drawings, specifications and tender documents to produce accurate cost breakdowns.
  • Lead mechanical pricing for design & build and traditional tenders.
  • Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities and propose cost-effective alternatives.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to support winning bids.
  • Attend client and consultant meetings as required.
  • Assist in handover to project delivery teams, ensuring clarity on scope and assumptions.

About You

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within building services.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including HVAC, public health and associated plant.
  • Track record of estimating large commercial projects (£1m-£10m).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong commercial acumen with excellent attention to detail.
  • Confident communicator able to build relationships with clients, consultants and suppliers.
  • Proficient in industry-standard estimating software and Microsoft Office.
