Wood is recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Static to support across various high‑profile projects in the UK. The Principal Engineer will join our Systems Integration team within our Digital Consulting business. The role is for a minimum 6‑month duration and requires hybrid working, with Tuesday and Wednesday based out of Aberdeen, Glasgow, Stockton or Staines and occasional travel to client sites. Applicants must be able to pass the HMG Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check.

Responsibilities

  • Definition and approval of technical scopes
  • Assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering designs, products and equipment
  • Perform engineering assignments and produce engineering deliverables, solving complex problems and completing project‑specific tasks
  • Provide technical reviews
  • Make recommendations on project organisation requirements, work methods, procedures and technical innovations, devising practical and economical solutions across engineering disciplines
  • Formulate and direct investigations or prototypes, model and system studies, evaluating and interpreting data, and recommend practical application of results
  • Resolve issues such as conflicting design requirements, material unsuitability and complex coordination requirements
  • Support the Mechanical Engineering Team in deliverables
  • Interface with project construction, commissioning, operations, contractor and vendor personnel
  • Review Method Statements and Risk Assessments related to Mechanical Engineering
  • Participate in coordination meetings, weekly progress and other ad‑hoc meetings as required
  • Familiarity with procurement processes – enquiries, TBE’s and purchase requisitions

Qualifications

  • Degree in relevant engineering discipline, or tertiary level education combined with suitable industry experience to demonstrate equivalence
  • Chartership, PE status or relevant professional licence/registration accredited by a recognised body (preferred)
  • Must be able to pass HMG Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check
