Having built a strong foundation in R&D, the business is now entering an exciting commercialisation phase, with products progressing towards market deployment and wider real-world adoption. As part of this journey, they are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in the design, development and industrialisation of advanced imaging systems and associated technologies.

Why Join?

  • Join a pioneering medical imaging company at a major commercialisation stage
  • Work on cutting-edge low-dose 3D X-ray products with real-world clinical and industrial impact
  • Take ownership of meaningful mechanical design and development projects in a highly collaborative R&D environment

Location: Oxfordshire / Begbroke site

About the Role

  • Act as a functional expert, providing guidance and advice to colleagues in their specialist area (Mechanical Engineering and testing)
  • Generate practical design concepts and solutions and create models and technical drawings using SolidWorks
  • Supporting the development of manufacturing processes and novel designs for new technology applications and materials
  • Analyse and verify designs (including designing and carrying out stress, thermal and tolerance analyses), document results and make data led recommendations to support continuous improvement of our products and processes
  • Prepare documentation and technical reports, including drawings and work instructions, and all other project documentation as required
  • Liaising with internal stakeholders and key external partners to resolve design and development issues
  • Take ownership for own project work, lead projects and identify and prioritise critical tasks to meet project delivery deadlines
  • Works collaboratively to plan future product development in line with company objectives

  • Design engineering experience in a high technology environment
  • Mechanical manufacturing processes including machining, metal fabrication, welding and advanced materials
  • Leading R&D projects under a stage review product development process
  • A track record in industrial product development, ideally in the medical or metrology/NDT domain
  • Scoping work, making design decisions, and completing tasks within deadline and budget
  • Commercial experience of working with suppliers would be advantageous
  • Working within a medical device or other highly regulated industry would be welcome but not essential
  • Designing for EMC to protect internal electronics

Skills:

  • Strong technical skills including knowledge of the materials and coating processes applied in material selection
  • Knowledge of GD&T applied to drawings and the assignment of realistic tolerances balancing function with cost
  • Strong mechanical or electro-mechanical engineering background, and be able to apply knowledge to real-world situations
  • Proficient in 3D CAD using SolidWorks, to produce designs and drawings using best practice geometric tolerances and drawing standards including experience with drawing control systems such as PDM
  • Ability to produce creative and practical design solutions including appropriate analysis, incorporating electronics, PCBs cabling and sensors within a mechanical package
  • Desire to mentor and develop the skills and capabilities of other team members
  • Proactive, results-driven focus with the ability to successfully identify, troubleshoot and resolve issues and work to deadlines in and R&D environment

New Edge Computing Employers to Watch in 2026: UK and Global Companies Shaping Edge Innovation

Edge computing is transforming how data is processed by bringing compute power closer to the source of generation. With the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT), real‑time analytics, autonomous systems, and latency‑sensitive applications, edge computing has moved from a niche discipline to a core component of digital infrastructure. In 2026, organisations that specialise in or heavily invest in edge computing are expanding their teams to build distributed systems, real‑time analytics platforms, and edge‑optimised AI. For professionals exploring opportunities on www.EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk , understanding which employers are growing, winning contracts, or securing investment is essential. This article highlights the new and high‑growth edge computing employers to watch in 2026, including UK startups, international innovators with a UK presence, and established companies shifting strategy toward edge.

How Many Edge Computing Tools Do You Need to Know to Get an Edge Computing Job?

If you’re trying to start or grow a career in edge computing, it can feel like you’re navigating a maze of tools, frameworks and platforms — Kubernetes, Docker, IoT frameworks, AWS Greengrass, Azure IoT Edge, OpenShift, TinyML toolkits, networking orchestration, real-time streaming frameworks, and on it goes. Scroll job boards and community forums and it’s easy to conclude that unless you master every buzzword imaginable, you’ll never get a job. Here’s the honest truth most edge computing hiring managers won’t necessarily say out loud: 👉 They don’t hire you because you know every edge computing tool — they hire you because you can solve real system problems using the tools you know. Tools matter, yes — but only when they support clear outcomes: reliable systems, performance at scale, secure edge deployments and real business value. So how many edge computing tools do you actually need to know to secure a job? For most edge computing roles, the answer is fewer than you think — and a lot clearer when sorted by fundamentals and roles. This guide shows you what matters, what doesn’t, and how to focus your time wisely so you come across as capable, confident and employable.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Edge Computing Job Applications (UK Guide)

In today’s fast-evolving tech landscape, edge computing is one of the most sought-after fields — blending distributed systems, embedded systems, networking, cloud, IoT, data and real-time processing. But that also means hiring managers are highly selective. They scan applications fast and look for signals of relevance, impact, technical depth and real-world delivery long before they read every line. This guide demystifies what hiring managers in edge computing look for first in your application — so you can tailor your CV, portfolio and cover letter to jump out of the stack. Whether you’re targeting edge systems roles, embedded IoT edge jobs, edge-native data roles, edge platform engineering or edge-AI positions, this checklist will help you position your experience in a way hiring managers can trust immediately.
