We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client, a well-established and growing rail engineering organisation, who are experienced an exciting period of growth following a recent acquisition. They are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Project Engineer with demonstrable experience in leading engineering design and delivery across a range of rolling stock & fleet products.


This is a hands-on role within a busy engineering production environment, supporting the Head of Engineering with the delivery of design and installation projects for passenger and freight rolling stock systems, whilst also leading a small team of Design Engineers.


In return, you will receive a starting salary of up to £58,000, depending on experience. Other benefits include 33 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays), early 2:30pm finish on Fridays, electrical car sacrifice scheme, free parking, employee discount scheme, pension scheme, EAP and the opportunity for future career development and progression opportunities.


Roles & Responsibilities


  • Attending customer sites to oversee the installation of rolling stock and passenger fleet systems, whilst being on hand to tackle any design challenges
  • Adopting primary use of Solidworks to produce general arrangements, prototype and final approval drawings, using both 2D and 3D packages
  • Ensure timely delivery of a range of modification and refurbishment projects
  • Act as primary contact for customers and stakeholders, ensuring queries are dealt with swiftly and issues are resolved promptly
  • Ensure company best practices and customer requirements are consistently met
  • Collaborate with Head of Engineering to assess and refine the design strategy for the business, whilst incorporating continuous improvement and LEAN techniques


Skills & Experience


  • Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering or similar engineering discipline
  • Proven experienced in full design of rolling stock, freight wagons and/or passenger fleet systems essential
  • Fully proficient in the use of 2D/3D Solidworks
  • Experienced in leading the successful delivery of rolling stock design and installation projects
  • Excellent stakeholder communication skills on all levels
  • Ability to lead and inspire a team of Design Engineers
  • Happy working on customer sites when required at final project delivery stage
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
