What You Would Do As Our Mechanical Design Engineer

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of our next‑generation products, while also supporting continuous improvement across the current portfolio. You will transform concepts into robust production‑ready designs, applying innovative techniques and collaborating with colleagues across our global network. This role falls under the R&D flexible‑working scheme, allowing you to choose when to work from home or the office, although hands‑on tasks such as prototyping and testing will require regular presence in Olney.


You would also be responsible for:



  • Delivering engineering design solutions for new and existing products, developing concepts through to production release in collaboration with suppliers and using a variety of manufacturing methods including sheet metalwork, injection moulding, aluminium extrusion and die‑casting.
  • Creating CAD models, engineering drawings and BOMs using Autodesk Inventor, while managing CAD data and documentation through Autodesk Vault Professional.
  • Collaborating closely with the Hardware Development Team to solve technical challenges, ensuring designs balance cost, performance, manufacturability, and compliance with relevant standards and safety requirements.
  • Managing your workload to meet project timelines, driving VAVE initiatives and continuous improvement across the product portfolio, and adopting a hands‑on approach to prototyping, testing, and evaluating new ideas.
  • Contributing to a structured and high‑quality development process by presenting technical reports and documentation, supporting cross‑functional teams, and engaging in design governance activities such as reviews and compliance checks.

The Skills And Experience You Need

  • Holds a minimum of an HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, with at least five years’ experience in a product‑design role and a strong background in electro‑mechanical product development.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD (ideally Autodesk Inventor) and has experience with CAD revision‑control systems such as Autodesk Vault Professional, supported by a solid understanding of manufacturing processes including sheet metal, moulding, die‑casting and extrusion.
  • Has experience managing design projects, preparing technical reports for different audiences, and contributing effectively within cross‑functional teams.
  • Demonstrates strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently under pressure while maintaining a collaborative and constructive approach.
  • Ideally brings additional experience in areas such as IEC 62368‑1 compliance, FMEA, sustainability, mechanical simulation, or experience with Jira/Confluence.
