Downhole Oilfield Tools - Oil Well Intervention (Upstream)

Aberdeen | £70,000-£80,000 + Bonus + Private Medical | Relocation Considered for UK Citizens

Only

Design oil well intervention tools that actually reach the field - and know you were responsible for every stage.

This is a rare opportunity to join a privately backed, investment-funded upstream technology business entering a significant growth phase.

The company has recently secured funding to expand its product portfolio, accelerate new tool development, and scale internationally within the oil well intervention and completion markets. This is not a cost‑cutting, contraction story.

This is controlled expansion backed by capital and clear strategy.

The leadership team is composed of experienced upstream engineers and proven operators who have built and scaled oilfield businesses before. The culture is engineering‑led, commercially disciplined, and highly accountable.

The Business

A specialist upstream downhole technology company operating exclusively in oil well intervention and completion tooling.

  • Focused on high‑integrity, pressure‑critical downhole tools
  • Developing proprietary, IP‑protected technology platforms in an agile engineering environment with short decision cycles
  • Clear roadmap for product expansion and global reach
  • Strong leadership track record in scaling oilfield businesses

This is a serious engineering business with long‑term intent.

The Role

As Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take ownership of complex upstream oil well intervention tools from feasibility through to deployment.

  • You will:
  • Lead concept development for intervention and completion tools
  • Analyse hydrostatic pressures, load paths, fatigue and failure mechanisms
  • Perform advanced stress and load calculations
  • Conduct tolerance stack‑up studies and apply GD&T principles
  • Develop complex SolidWorks assemblies and detailed manufacturing drawings
  • Design and oversee validation test equipment
  • Participate hands‑on in workshop build and testing
  • Lead technical design reviews internally and with customers
  • Support field trials and first‑off installations
  • Deliver projects through structured engineering stage gates

  • (Non‑Negotiable) Degree or HNC in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years upstream oilfield downhole tools experience
  • Direct oil well intervention tool design exposure
  • Strong hydrostatic and pressure containment design capability
  • Advanced stress and load calculation expertise
  • Tolerance stack‑up analysis experience
  • Experience taking tools from concept through manufacture and deployment

Applicants without upstream oil well intervention experience will not be considered.

Why Consider This Move?

Engineers in large service companies often design one component of a system. Here, you will:

  • Own the whole tool
  • Engage directly with customers
  • See your work tested and deployed
  • Operate in a high‑performance, low‑bureaucracy environment
  • Contribute to an ambitious growth plan backed by investment
  • This is for engineers who prefer ownership over hierarchy and impact over structure.

Package

  • Discretionary bonus
  • Private medical insurance
  • 25 days + bank holidays
  • Relocation support considered for UK citizens only

New Edge Computing Employers to Watch in 2026: UK and Global Companies Shaping Edge Innovation

Edge computing is transforming how data is processed by bringing compute power closer to the source of generation. With the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT), real‑time analytics, autonomous systems, and latency‑sensitive applications, edge computing has moved from a niche discipline to a core component of digital infrastructure. In 2026, organisations that specialise in or heavily invest in edge computing are expanding their teams to build distributed systems, real‑time analytics platforms, and edge‑optimised AI. For professionals exploring opportunities on www.EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk , understanding which employers are growing, winning contracts, or securing investment is essential. This article highlights the new and high‑growth edge computing employers to watch in 2026, including UK startups, international innovators with a UK presence, and established companies shifting strategy toward edge.

How Many Edge Computing Tools Do You Need to Know to Get an Edge Computing Job?

If you’re trying to start or grow a career in edge computing, it can feel like you’re navigating a maze of tools, frameworks and platforms — Kubernetes, Docker, IoT frameworks, AWS Greengrass, Azure IoT Edge, OpenShift, TinyML toolkits, networking orchestration, real-time streaming frameworks, and on it goes. Scroll job boards and community forums and it’s easy to conclude that unless you master every buzzword imaginable, you’ll never get a job. Here’s the honest truth most edge computing hiring managers won’t necessarily say out loud: 👉 They don’t hire you because you know every edge computing tool — they hire you because you can solve real system problems using the tools you know. Tools matter, yes — but only when they support clear outcomes: reliable systems, performance at scale, secure edge deployments and real business value. So how many edge computing tools do you actually need to know to secure a job? For most edge computing roles, the answer is fewer than you think — and a lot clearer when sorted by fundamentals and roles. This guide shows you what matters, what doesn’t, and how to focus your time wisely so you come across as capable, confident and employable.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Edge Computing Job Applications (UK Guide)

In today’s fast-evolving tech landscape, edge computing is one of the most sought-after fields — blending distributed systems, embedded systems, networking, cloud, IoT, data and real-time processing. But that also means hiring managers are highly selective. They scan applications fast and look for signals of relevance, impact, technical depth and real-world delivery long before they read every line. This guide demystifies what hiring managers in edge computing look for first in your application — so you can tailor your CV, portfolio and cover letter to jump out of the stack. Whether you’re targeting edge systems roles, embedded IoT edge jobs, edge-native data roles, edge platform engineering or edge-AI positions, this checklist will help you position your experience in a way hiring managers can trust immediately.
