Role Purpose

Are you a seasoned Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong background in the water and wastewater sector? Due to continued success building on our existing framework agreements and a confident growth plan in AMP 8 and AMP 9 across all 10 major water and wastewater companies in England and Wales, we’re seeking a confident, innovative professional to lead the design and delivery of complex infrastructure projects. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of challenging projects, from innovative treatment systems to infrastructure upgrades, all while collaborating with a supportive, forward‑thinking team of 40+ engineers. Your expertise will shape sustainable engineering solutions, mentor junior staff, and influence key project decisions.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design and specification of water and wastewater treatment systems, pumping stations, and associated infrastructure.
  • Oversee project delivery from concept through to detailed design and construction support.
  • Develop detailed specifications for survey requirements, equipment, systems and interfaces between disciplines, ensuring they meet client requirements and industry standards.
  • Produce mechanical designs using project specifications, standard requirements, outline scopes of work, and/or site investigations.
  • Innovate, challenge, and consider continuous improvement across projects and designs.
  • Support addressing challenges across teams, bringing unique experience to define solutions.
  • Assist less technical team members with the specification of technical plant and machinery.
  • Liaise with project managers and commercial teams.
  • Attend site, both during and after projects.
  • Produce and carry out technical presentations during client visits and meetings.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience working in a senior mechanical design role.
  • Relevant engineering qualification such as a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, HNC, or HND.
  • Experience in:

    • Mechanical systems design.
    • Site general arrangement design, 2D and/or 3D.
    • Design project coordination, leading and supporting teams.
    • Chemical dosing.
    • Water quality monitoring.

  • Proficiency with Autodesk 3D CAD packages.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office packages.
  • Specific water industry‑based design experience.

Employment Details

  • Hybrid model: 3 days in the office and 2 days at home (flexible working available).
  • Locations: Bath (Head Office), Newport, Poole or Maidstone – roles related to the clients those offices support.
  • Contract: 40 hour per week, Monday to Friday.
