Evolito develops and manufactures class-leading, lightweight, high-power, and high-torque-density electric propulsion systems for a range of aerospace markets, including EVTOL, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and General Aviation.


As well as ultra-high performance, low-weight electric motors and controllers, Evolito specialises in high integrity, bespoke battery systems for the aerospace and defence markets. The team is scaling rapidly and has ambitious growth plans over the next twelve to eighteen months.


As part of our current high-growth phase, we are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join us to lead the mechanical engineering functional team and to set up the required processes and capabilities to support the needs of the mechanical engineering function.


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Own the design and development of parts and assemblies of our motor and controller products
  • Develop design solutions through full product lifecycle from requirements, through concept schemes, preliminary design, detail design, support procurement, manufacture/production, test and verification and development activities
  • Review 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, supporting calculations and analysis, material and production methods selection
  • Ownership of drawing checks on 3D CAD models and 2D drawings, to achieve formal drawing releases
  • Support the development of manufacturing processes and novel designs for new technology applications and materials
  • Liaise with suppliers on design and development solutions, resolving to the optimal solution
  • Support FMEAs and FMECA input
  • Ownership of engineering documentation, such as risk resister and design logbooks
  • Support new business opportunities with information, guidance and feasibility of packaging and applications of our motors and controllers
  • Support and encourage people development
  • Support design and engineering development best practices, capable of producing technical documentation for internal and external use when required.

Skills and experience required:

  • Degree or equivalent in mechanical, electro-mechanical or equivalent engineering sciences
  • Proven experience in a design and development environment, pragmatically applying knowledge to real-world
  • Confidence in using engineering basic principles for initial conceptual design
  • Strong understanding of design for manufacturing and series production processes
  • Experienced in the use of CAD and data management software packages to generate best practice 3D models to create design concepts and production intent parts eg. NX, Teamcenter PLM
  • Ability to undertake and interpret mechanical CAE studies and propose solutions/improvements to design issues
  • Experienced in GD&T to ISO 1101:2017, ASME Y14.5 - 2018 or similar
  • Familiarity with FMEAs and robust engineering practices, and/or willingness to appreciate working within a structured and rigorous systems engineering product development process
  • Confident with cross-functional collaboration with internal stakeholders, with suppliers and customers
  • Ability to critically review engineering specifications, statements of works and other documents that may form part of technical and commercial agreements
  • Experience in people management and people development
  • Creative problem-solving abilities with an analytical approach to implementation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, concise
  • UK driving licence and be available to support visits to customer sites.
  • Basic CAE analysis skills (FEM, CFD, vibration and modal) to perform simple analysis
  • Experience with composite materials and dissimilar materials bonding
  • Member of professional institutions such as IET or IMechE
