Senior Associate Mechanical Engineer. Location: Oxford or Cambridge.

We have a brand-new opportunity for a Senior Associate Mechanical Engineer to join our team based in our Oxford or Cambridge offices. Our Oxford and Cambridge offices provide a local presence on projects, with expertise in complex engineering sectors such as science, research and healthcare. We are focused on growth, offering stability and opportunity in a collaborative, hybrid-working environment with the option to work a 9-day fortnight. As a Senior Associate Mechanical Engineer, you will lead large-scale, complex projects, manage stakeholders, monitor and report metrics, and motivate teams to perform at their best. You will ensure a productive use of time and resources.

You can expect to engage in client-facing activities, contribute to technical delivery, and support junior staff and knowledge sharing across the firm. The role also involves financial oversight and exploring innovative ways of working to stay ahead of competitors. You will help maintain the company’s reputation and adherence to quality management and risk control procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Be in a client-facing role, attending project meetings and disseminating the brief within the project team. You will need to be personable and a good communicator.
  • Lead the development of initial strategic concepts for projects ensuring solutions are appropriate for the brief and regulatory standards.
  • Take responsibility for solid technical delivery in your work either alone or as part of a team.
  • Engage with junior support staff in their day-to-day activities and offer guidance to develop their skills.
  • Collaborate with the Firm-wide Group to gain experience, share knowledge, and support others in the Firm.
  • Be financially astute and work with the team leader to monitor fee expenditure, resources, and work delivered.
  • Identify new ways of working and allocate time for innovation and research to stay ahead of competitors.
  • Create and maintain a high reputation within the industry and ensure adherence to QM and risk control procedures.
About You

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer or closely related role, with a track record delivering on complex projects.
  • Understanding of mechanical services including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment with excellent communication skills for internal and external clients, and a team-based approach.
  • Experience using software/tools such as Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Self-awareness, an open mind, and a collaborative attitude.
  • Familiarity with relevant British Standards.
  • Consultancy experience, including understanding complementary specialisms such as acoustics, fire engineering and computer modelling and their impact on design.
