We have an exciting part‑time Respiratory Physiotherapist within our Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service.


As a member of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service in the community, you will be responsible for providing specialist assessment and treatment to patients with chronic respiratory disease, including COPD, Bronchiectasis, Interstitial Lung Disease, and Asthma. The aim is to provide a holistic approach to:



  • Maintain or improve symptoms
  • Promote patient self‑management
  • Reduce the frequency of exacerbations
  • Improve functional ability
  • Enhance quality of life

Following comprehensive assessment, you will provide specialist exercise therapy and education to patients referred to the Coastal Community Respiratory Service and the Pulmonary Rehabilitation team. You will also supervise and educate junior staff and undergraduate students on placement, and undertake clinical audit and service development as necessary.


After appropriate training, you will complete oxygen assessments and prescription in line with clinical guidelines and local pathways.

Clinical

  • Delivery of treatment as an individual practitioner or as part of a multi‑disciplinary team
  • Advanced assessment of patients with diverse or complex physical, psychological, cognitive and behavioural conditions to deliver appropriate exercise therapy
  • Safe and competent assessment and treatment of patients, following National and Departmental guidelines
  • Management and undertaking of audit & research in specific areas of clinical practice and service delivery
  • Communication with wider MDT, service users, carers, stakeholders, the public and their representatives, ensuring effective and accurate information is delivered
  • Maintain patient records accurately and legibly in accordance with trust guidelines
  • Liaise regularly with the clinical specialist/team leader regarding treatment progression and ongoing care of patients
  • Undertake appropriate exercise assessments to help determine oxygen requirements for exercise

Professional/Leadership

  • Assist supervision and development of junior staff / students
  • Help in the provision of the department training programme
  • Participate in continuing professional development
  • Attend relevant training courses as identified and agreed with senior staff and managers during staff appraisal sessions
  • Highlight any service delivery issues to the clinical specialist/team leader
  • Participate in clinical audit as necessary
