The role

As a Quality Control Inspector – Mechanical, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the heart of one of the UK’s most exciting defence programmes – the Type 31 Frigate. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to a project that’s redefining modern shipbuilding. You’ll ensure the highest standards of quality and governance are met, supporting the Quality Manager and driving continuous improvement across the programme.

Day-to-day responsibilities
  • Inspecting and accepting ship machinery, equipment, and systems installations.
  • Liaising closely with Lloyds Register and other verification bodies.
  • Managing the Inspection Test Record (ITR) regime and maintaining completion records.
  • Coordinating Lloyds Register inspections and managing their inspection diary.
  • Supporting quality improvement initiatives across the T31 project.

This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday and is based on site at Rosyth.

Essential experience of the Quality Control Inspector – Mechanical
  • Strong knowledge of quality control in naval warship construction and acceptance.
  • Ability to assess production and subcontractor work for technical acceptability.
  • Deep understanding of quality control fundamentals.
  • Broad knowledge of warship machinery, equipment, and systems design and installation.
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills.
Qualifications for the Quality Control Inspector – Mechanical
  • Qualified to a recognised trade standard in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Relevant academic qualification such as HNC or SVQ Level 3.
Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
