The Role

A leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join its Manchester office. This senior role will take ownership of high-profile building services projects across commercial, residential, and public sector developments, providing technical leadership and strategic direction.


You will lead design delivery, mentor teams, and drive excellence across the mechanical discipline. The role offers significant autonomy and visibility within the Manchester office and the wider business.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical building services design from concept through to construction
  • Provide technical direction and quality assurance across multiple projects
  • Design and review HVAC, plant, and low- and medium-energy systems
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated design solutions
  • Mentor and develop senior, intermediate, and junior engineers
  • Act as a client-facing technical lead, contributing to proposals and strategy
  • Ensure compliance with UK standards, building regulations, and sustainability targets

About You

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering
  • Chartered (CIBSE / IMechE) with significant principal-level experience
  • Proven track record delivering mechanical engineering design for commercial, residential, or public sector projects
  • Experienced in leading multidisciplinary project teams
  • Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Commercially aware and able to contribute to business development
