As a Principal Piping Engineer, you'll play a significant role in your projects and across our Nuclear & Power Division. You'll lead and oversee teams across significant nuclear projects, keeping the world powered more sustainably. Working closely with colleagues, clients, stakeholders and contractors, you'll also enjoy opportunities to mentor colleagues while progressing your career upward.


Your role

The role will entail leading projects to deliver piping solutions for the construction of new nuclear stations and systems at fusion research facilities, support the operation of the existing nuclear generating fleet and decommission nuclear sites. Day‑to‑day activities may include the following:



  • Technical leadership of piping teams on large projects or multi‑discipline teams on small to mid‑size projects.
  • Delivery of technical solutions to complex problems.
  • Oversight of production of clear and concise technical reports, calculations and drawings.
  • Review and verification of technical documentation produced by others.
  • Regular communication with clients and stakeholders, building and nurturing strong relationships with them.
  • Production or review of bids and proposals.
  • Develop capability through mentoring and coaching, development of tools/templates, input into technical community.

About You

  • Relevant qualifications in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • Senior technical practitioner with good engineering judgement and extensive experience in using fundamental engineering skills while leading and developing others.
  • Extensive experience in piping and pressure vessel design and stress analysis.
  • Experience delivering projects for UK nuclear licensees.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in safety critical piping design.
  • Chartered with a relevant professional institute.
  • Experience in working with design codes such as ASME BPVC Section III, RCC‑M, BS EN 13480, BS EN 13445.
  • Experience in PESR and PSSR compliance.
  • A good understanding of commercial and client management principles.
