Location: Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, CA2 7HY


Status: Permanent, Full-time


Salary: £24,937 to £26,598 per year (pro rata where applicable)

Job Responsibilities

Please see attached job description and person specification for full details of the role and the essential and desirable criteria. The post holders will:



  • Work with patients on in-patient wards and within an out-patient setting delivering pulmonary and cardiac rehabilitation programmes.
  • Provide high quality physiotherapeutic interventions as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Contribute to patient-centred assessment and rehabilitation to regain function after acute illness and improve function and quality of life for patients with chronic respiratory and cardiac conditions.
  • Be flexible to support the wider physiotherapy service.
  • Work in a supportive team in the rehabilitation of patients at the Cumberland Infirmary.

Essential Criteria

  • Good general education including GCSE English and maths or equivalent
  • QCF (NVQ) Level 3 in a health-related subject or willingness and ability to undertake
  • Care Certificate or willingness and ability to undertake
  • Able to work flexibly according to the needs of the service
  • Able to work in an acute hospital environment and to motivate patients

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in sports science
  • Supervisory experience
  • Health care work experience with people with physical needs

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Underpinning theoretical knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology
  • Knowledge of multi-disciplinary team roles
  • Good communication skills (verbal)
  • Ability to prioritise, work under pressure, and work on own initiative
  • Able to motivate patients and demonstrate compassionate care

Personal and Other Requirements

  • Able to work flexibly and participate in home visits as required
  • Act in ways that support equality and value diversity
