An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Physiotherapist to join the Acute Rehabilitation team on a full‑time permanent basis.
This post is based within the QEUH and aims to provide early, targeted rehabilitation to patients with identified complex rehab needs from as early as possible in their inpatient stay.
It is essential that you are educated to Diploma/Degree level in Physiotherapy while being registered with HCPC. You should have significant post‑graduate experience with previous clinical experience in Acute Rehabilitation. This post involves a complex and varied caseload incorporating patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge planning.
You will be clinically responsible for rotational staff, support worker staff and students, inducting, training and managing staff on a daily basis. You will lead in service development and service change within the team. You will be actively encouraged to develop through your 4 pillars of practice while participating in CPD, audit and research.
You will be required to participate in the physiotherapy emergency on call and weekend rota.
This post will require the post holder to work weekends. Part time hours would be considered for this post if including weekends.
The role
- To work as an autonomous practitioner in managing a specialist clinical caseload and as an effective and efficient partner in the multi‑disciplinary team
- To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of the Physiotherapy service and have an active involvement in audit/ Quality improvement within the unit/ Physiotherapy service
- Has a key role in the education and development of Physiotherapy and other staff, including supervision of junior staff

- The shift pattern for this post is five out of seven days including weekend working
Key responsibilities
- Is professionally and legally accountable and responsible for all aspects of own work, including direct and indirect patient care, within scope of practice, as per HCPC guidelines
- Assesses capacity, gains valid consent, and has the ability to work within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent
- Uses available evidence‑base and acts independently to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, treat, and progress patient care to maximise functional independence and rehabilitation potential, including decision‑making regarding discharge from care
- Manages own identified complex caseload of patients effectively and efficiently
- Works as a key member of a multi‑professional team to ensure effective communication and delivery of care
- Maintains documentation, records, and accurate statistical information to reflect care provided and meet professional standards, including computerised systems where applicable, in accordance with Chartered Society of Physiotherapists and Service standards
- Attends and reports in clinical review meetings, ward rounds, and case conferences as appropriate
- Provides specialist advice when required on the management of patients
- In liaison with the AHP Team Lead, develops, implements, and evaluates appropriate clinical guidelines within the clinical area (e.g., SIGN)
- Links with specialist internal and external working groups and specialist interest groups
- Holds responsibility for certain aspects of service management, as delegated by the AHP Team Lead and/or Clinical Specialist, including deputising and supporting daily operational management as required
- Delegates appropriate caseload and tasks, supervising rotational therapists and Support Workers to maximise efficiency and ensure high‑quality patient care
- Acts as a clinical supervisor, monitoring and developing clinical performance of identified staff and, with support and guidance, managing performance issues
- Participates in the recruitment and selection of Physiotherapy staff and Support Workers within the service

Essential
- BSc / Diploma in Physiotherapy
- Registration with HCPC
- Occupational Health Clearance
- PVG Membership
- Significant post‑graduate experience, with previous experience in a relevant clinical area
- Computer literate, including use of e‑mail, Microsoft Office, and relevant clinical programmes
- Evidence of experience in clinical effectiveness (audit, systematic reviews, research proposals)
- Supervisory skill in developing and supporting staff
