Job Summary

Band 5 Physiotherapist - South Warwickshire Foundation Trust. Are you due to qualify soon? Or are you already qualified and looking to move to Warwickshire to develop and consolidate your physiotherapy practice and skills? South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust offers you the opportunity to develop your professional skills within Pelvic Health Specialist Physiotherapy Team in an outpatient setting across South Warwickshire. This is a fixed term 6 month static position and you would not be part of the rotational wheel. As this is a static post within the specialist pelvic health team, you must have had experience either on a pelvic health placement or rotation to be considered for the post. You will receive support and supervision from the specialist pelvic health team, enabling you to develop your clinical and leadership skills in a supportive environment. We are an inclusive and flexible team. There may be a requirement to participate in physiotherapy weekend and bank holiday services.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high standard physiotherapy service to patients within inpatient and outpatient specialties. To participate in the band 5 physiotherapy rotational scheme; this involves rotations working across the trust in both acute and community settings. To work as an accountable practitioner, holding responsibility for own caseload, working within codes of practice and professional guidelines. Work is managed rather than supervised. To keep accurate records of patient contact using written records and electronic data capture. To participate in weekend working and the on call physiotherapy service.

Job Description

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • To gain informed consent from each patient prior to assessment and treatment.
  • To undertake a comprehensive Physiotherapy assessment of the individual patient both adults and children including those with diverse or complex presentations/multiple pathologies; gaining relevant information by clinical examination; observation, questioning, discussion and manual physiotherapy assessment techniques.
  • Apply clinical reasoning skills to formulate a clinical diagnosis of their condition and set therapeutic/rehabilitation objectives.
  • To formulate and deliver an individual physiotherapy treatment programme based on evidence-based practice using clinical skills such as manual physiotherapy techniques, patient education, exercise programmes or classes, electrotherapy, and other options. Ensure competency to practice is maintained.
  • To evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes as required.
  • To formulate a prognosis and recommend best course of interventions developing comprehensive treatments and discharge plans.
  • To make informed clinical decisions on timely discharge planning and/or referral to other services.

  • Ensure competence to use physiotherapy equipment and supervise safe use by others through teaching and training.
  • Organise and plan own caseload to meet service and patient priorities; adapt plans as needs change.
  • Supervise, support, and coordinate Physiotherapy students, assistants and TIs with senior staff to meet Trust and professional standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the physiotherapy service and make recommendations for change.
  • Maintain own competency and responsibility for safe use of manual handling, gym and electrotherapy equipment by patients and staff.
  • Be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work; assess and manage clinical risk within own scope of practice.
Communication and Working Relationships

Communicate the clinical diagnosis and treatment programme to patients and carers; communicate effectively with patients, relatives or carers to maximise rehabilitative potential; liaise with other professionals and document accordingly. Maintain accurate documentation in line with standards.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Qualifications: Degree or equivalent in physiotherapy; HCPC registration.
  • Experience: Core placements within MSK, Respiratory, Orthopaedics, or Medical/Neurology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (where applicable).
  • Skills: Broad knowledge of conditions; clinical reasoning; up-to-date knowledge of physiotherapy options and research; ability to set realistic treatment objectives; clinical governance and legal responsibilities; accurate documentation; computer skills.
  • Personal Qualities: Clear and logical communication; effective patient communication; ability to collaborate with others; self-motivation and organisational skills; commitment to CPD.

Desirable

  • Experience in clinical education/supervision; involvement in clinical audit/research and quality issues; willingness to take on additional roles.

Other

  • Flexibility within department hours, including on-call and out-of-hours; good written and spoken English; car driver with independent transport; able to pass occupational health requirements; willing to undertake DBS disclosure; legally entitled to work in the UK.
