Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Physiotherapist to join our Pelvic Health Team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. This is a 12-month fixed-term, part-time (22.5 hours per week) position mainly based at The Alexandra Hospital, Redditch, with potential to work across all three trust sites. The Pelvic Health Team covers pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain, continence, pelvic pain conditions, and obstetric ward cover. The post holder will work closely with the Pelvic Health Therapy team, the wider multidisciplinary team, and musculoskeletal teams across all sites. The role requires managing a large and complex outpatient list, sound clinical reasoning, and a commitment to evidence-based care. Ongoing professional development is supported by Team Leads, audits, and the Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Service, with regular training and 1:1 supervision. The post-holder may contribute to supervision of students and support workers.

The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the supervision of both students and support workers and participate in a 7-day service on a rota basis depending on specialty.

Main duties
  • Autonomous professional practice providing high quality, patient-focused care through assessment, diagnosis, development and delivery of individual treatment programmes.
  • Take responsibility for own caseload within a defined area of service or for a particular patient type.
  • Provide supervision, support and education to qualified and unqualified staff and students.
  • Participate in departmental audit to support evidence-based practice.
  • Communicate with the MDT to provide comprehensive assessment and determine admission prevention as appropriate to the specialty.
  • Undertake outpatient activity as appropriate within area of specialty.
  • Contribute to a 7-day service on a rota basis and participate in on-call/weekend work as appropriate to specialty.

Job Description

Job responsibilities For a full list of duties please refer to the attached Job Description document.

Clinical: To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of practice, including the management of patients receiving treatment. To undertake clinical assessment, including risk analysis, of patients presenting with simple and complex/multi pathologies within defined area of specialty. To apply knowledge from a wide range of specialties and deliver evidence-based physiotherapy. To use advanced clinical reasoning and manual assessment techniques to establish accurate diagnoses. To formulate treatment programmes based on best practice, deliver a range of interventions, and regularly evaluate treatment effectiveness. To maintain treatment records with valid consent and ensure patient confidentiality. To participate in on-call and weekend work as appropriate to specialty. To lead patient classes where applicable (e.g., cardiac rehabilitation, knee group, rheumatology).

Communications: Assess capacity and gain valid consent; communicate effectively with patients to maximise rehabilitation potential. Write clear notes and discharge summaries; liaise with the multidisciplinary team, senior physiotherapy staff, and other professionals; provide information to patients, carers and relatives as appropriate.

Education and Training: Be appraised by the Team Lead Physiotherapist; maintain clinical professional development; participate in mandatory training; engage in research and development activity; supervise and appraise junior staff and students; adhere to local policies.

Organisation and Management: Prioritise own patient workload and supervise staff;, manage absence of Team Lead in the specialty; report to the Team Lead; adhere to policies; maintain a safe environment and safe use of equipment; provide managerial information as required.

Professional: Maintain HPC registration and CPD; work within CSP professional conduct; engage in continuous professional development and contribute to audits and service development.

Experience, Qualifications and Skills

Experience Essential: Broad experience in core rotations or the specialty; NHS acute experience; recent CPD; supervision and development of assistants and students. Desirable: MDT training; audit or research participation; senior-level specialty experience.

Other job requirements Essential: Able to commute between sites; willingness to work across 7 days and on-call duties; ability to meet physical demands; commitment to Worcestershire.

Personal Qualities Essential: Professional, team-oriented, flexible, assertive and enthusiastic; initiative; excellent interpersonal skills; approachable and consistent.

Qualifications Essential: Diploma or degree in physiotherapy; HPC registration; postgraduate qualifications or training. Desirable: CSP membership.

Skills/Knowledge Essential: MDT training, active participation in audit or research, senior-level specialty experience. Desirable: Teaching, leadership and presentation skills.
