PCV/HGV Mechanic /Technician – Stockport Depot

We are ideally looking for experienced PCV mechanics / engineers / fitters to join our Stockportteam. If you have any other relevant experience, i.e. light vehicle then you might be just what we are looking for.

· Typical annualised earnings of £35K+ based on combination of hourly rate, allowances, typical hours and overtime

· Guaranteed 38hours minimum hours with overtime potentially available

You’ll be one of 20 engineers at Stockport who maintains and repairs a modern and varied fleet of vehicles so our fantastic customers can travel safely and comfortably every day to healthcare and employment, to shopping and leisure, and to see friends and family.

Aside from the satisfaction of being a key worker in your community, there’s loads of reasons for you to join the Stagecoach Stockport team.

· Great benefits including a generous company pension scheme, 28 days holiday, including bank holidays rising to 33 days with length of service, free travel for you and a companion, free financial education and affordable loans, and finally a range of money-saving opportunities including discounts on holidays and retail, cinema outings, dental insurance, vehicle breakdown cover and hotels and attractions

· Free travel for you and a companion on our buses – so on your days off you can be off shopping without worrying about parking the car, or heading off for a day in the city or by the seaside without worrying about the cost of fuel or parking

· Training – don’t worry if you’ve not worked on our vehicles before (or indeed buses!) as we’ll train you on everything you need to know, and you’ll be supported by a great team doing a great job

· Varied work – interestingly it’s not all depot-based work…you could well find yourself out and about dealing with vehicle issues on the road, so it won’t always be the same four walls you’re looking at. And as one of the UK’s leading transport operators we’re investing heavily in electric vehicles and depot infrastructure, so there’s plenty to keep you interested

· Plenty of job security from being a key worker at the heart of our communities, where we always need great people servicing our fleet of vehicles, be they Alexander Dennis, Scania, Volvo or Optare

· A safe environment – we provide boots, overalls and specialist equipment so no need to worry about being safe and protected, or having the right kit for the job

· UK-wide opportunities whereby if you’re moving out of choice or circumstance, as we run bus companies across the UK, you can transfer to a new location

· Career development through developing your technical skills on future hybrid and electric vehicles, and career progression to Technician, Master Technician, Engineering Manager and beyond – a good number of our Engineering Directors started their career with us as mechanics and fitters.

· Secondment opportunities to work elsewhere in the business – either on big events like Silverstone and Cheltenham Festival, or into our head office support functions

· An employee assistance programme to support health and well-being through a confidential service available 24 hours a day which provides specialist guidance and assistance on a range of personal and work-related issues, from dealing with stress and anxiety to managing financial, marital or legal issues. Face-to-face counselling sessions are also offered, alongside telephone and online support.

· A great working environment with loads of opportunity to make new friends from a bunch of great workmates, managers who work hard to create great places to work, and employee networks building inclusive environments for women, veterans, carers, multicultural and LGBTQ+ colleagues

The recruitment process is simple – you apply with your CV, we’ll have a good read then get you in for an interview and give you a tour of the depot, and that’s it!

There are a few of things we need from you:

· You need to have an engineering background with a vehicular focus – bus, HGV / LGV, truck, haulage, automotive, plant, rail, farm – if it moves, it’s good experience!

· You need to want to deliver high standards of engineering maintenance and repair

So if that’s you, and you like what we’re offering, then apply below!

Edge Computing Recruitment Trends 2025 (UK): What Job Seekers Need To Know About Today’s Hiring Process

Summary: UK edge computing hiring has moved from tool‑lists to capability‑driven assessments that emphasise resilient edge architectures, real‑time data pipelines, secure device fleets, container/Kubernetes at the edge, on‑device/near‑edge ML, and measurable business impact (latency, reliability, cost‑to‑serve). This guide explains what’s changed, what to expect in interviews & how to prepare—especially for edge platform engineers, IoT/OT engineers, edge SREs, embedded/firmware engineers, edge AI/ML engineers, network engineers (5G/private LTE), security specialists & product managers. Who this is for: Edge platform/SRE, IoT solution architects, embedded/firmware developers, edge AI/ML engineers, network engineers (5G/SD‑WAN), security engineers (OT/ICS), data/streaming engineers, site deployment/field engineers & edge product managers targeting roles in the UK.

Why Edge Computing Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

For years, computing innovation was focused on the cloud. But as demand for real-time analytics, low-latency processing and secure local data handling grows, edge computing has become the next frontier. From autonomous vehicles to healthcare monitoring devices, retail checkout systems to industrial IoT, edge computing is transforming how data is processed and used in the UK. This shift has also changed what it means to work in the field. Edge computing careers are no longer purely technical. They now require knowledge of law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design, as professionals must consider regulation, human behaviour, communication & usability alongside engineering. In this article, we’ll explore why UK edge computing careers are becoming more multidisciplinary, how these five fields intersect with edge roles, and what job-seekers & employers need to know to thrive in this evolving landscape.

Edge Computing Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Edge Computing Department

Edge computing is expanding rapidly in the UK, driven by demands for low latency, on-site processing, IoT proliferation, autonomous systems, 5G, AI inference on devices, and regulatory pressures for data sovereignty. Businesses in sectors such as telecoms, industrial automation, retail, smart cities, autonomous vehicles, and healthcare are pushing computation and intelligence closer to where data is generated. But to design, build, deploy, secure, and maintain edge computing systems requires more than just hardware or software — it requires structured teams with clearly defined roles and responsibilities. If you’re hiring, or applying for roles via EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk, understanding who does what in a mature edge computing department will help you plan better, show relevance in job applications, and build resilient teams. This article covers the key roles in edge computing teams, how they collaborate through the project lifecycle, what skills and qualifications UK employers usually expect, salary benchmarks, challenges and trends, and best practices for structuring effective edge teams.
