NRC Specialist Physiotherapist

The National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) will transform the future of rehabilitation for people who have experienced injury or illness. Opening in November 2025, the NRC will be a new, purpose-built 70-bed facility which will be built on the Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate near Loughborough. It is co-located with the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre and will share some of the world class rehabilitation facilities. Thanks to its academic partnerships, research and innovation and training and education in rehabilitation will be embedded at the NRC and central to clinical practice.

We are looking for an ambitious and dedicated physiotherapist with significant experience in neurological rehab to join this journey to rehabilitation excellence, transforming outcomes for patients. If you are successful, you will become a key part of shaping the service going forwards and contribute, with other professional colleagues, to the delivery of the future of rehabilitation. Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a specialist service in complex rehabilitation assessment, advice and treatment for patients, including neuro and complex musculoskeletal trauma injuries in an in-patient environment.

You will be supported by a team of Physiotherapists and Rehabilitation Assistant Practitioners with full training and support provided to develop your clinical, leadership, teaching and service development skills.

You will demonstrate effective communication, prioritisation and organisational skills within a cohesive multidisciplinary team, whilst being responsible for managing a complex clinical caseload from assessment to discharge or transfer of care.

You will receive regular supervision and appraisal and will actively be involved in service development, audit, research and implementation of evidence-based practice.

Job responsibilities

Plan, deliver and progress treatment interventions using clinical reasoning and decision-making skills in order to work towards and achieve identified patient goals.

Work with, and delegate to, Rehabilitation Assistant Practitionersto optimise patient rehabilitation

To facilitate annual appraisal and personal development planning for relevant members of the Physiotherapy Team.

To participate in the education of Physiotherapy and multidisciplinary staff

Person SpecificationQualifications

• BSc honours or equivalent in Physiotherapy.
• Full Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) registration
• Evidence of maintaining professional competence through C.P.D.
• Member of CIG
• First line management course.
• Clinical Educators Course.
• Evidence of post-graduate training in specialty.

Physical skills

• Evidence of ability to treat complex rehabilitation patients.
• Basic keyboard and IT skills.
• Able to handle and move complex patients safely and in a way which promotes rehabilitation if applicable.
• Able to use and/or manoeuvre a range of medical devices including, for example, handling/assistive and anthropometric equipment if applicable.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities.

Experience

• Broad based Band 5 rotational experience
• Possession of specific knowledge, technical skills and experience in complex rehabilitation in an in-patient area
• Experience in evaluation of practice
• Experience of delegating to and supervising other members of the team
• Able to contribute to the delivery of clinical education about theory and practice to individuals, team and the wider MDT (including students)
• Awareness of current best practice within a clinical specialty
• Awareness of national and local standards and national guidelines
• IT and computer skills and have the ability to learn how to use specific software
• Previous Band 6 Experience
• Previous experience in Neuro and / or Trauma
• Experience of evidence based audit of own practice and the practice of others
• Experience in training/supervising students in own profession
• Experience in treating respiratory patients following serious injury or illness

Planning and organisation skills

• Ability to organise and prioritise workload.
• Experience of effective delegation.
• Experience of organising others workload.

Other requirements specific to the role (e.g. be able to drive or work shifts)

• Able to travel to work at the NRC site.
• Willing to undergo additional security checks to use patient facilities at the DMRC.
• Undertake out of hours duties as required.
• Able to travel to required areas within and beyond the Trust
• Maintain competence in respiratory care where appropriate

• Use reasoning skills and knowledge of a range of treatment options to formulate and deliver treatment programmes
• Able to record and use relevant information including computer data entry of patient and other information
• Experience of performance management.
